Let’s play a little game, Ok? First, take a moment and picture firefighters. What image do you see? What do you think? How do you feel? Most of you probably saw a tall and vigorous man with a friendly face. Next, some thoughts that you probably had were that firefighters are young, good, gallant, skilled, helpful, friendly, kind, brave and the color red. Some emotions that you may have felt include safe, protected, trust, competent, and calm. Let’s do that again, but this time, let’s replace…
Downtown Kansas City. It is part of Johnson County which is a fairly large county. The county itself is drastically different from the KC Metro area because it is known to be a very affluent area, especially the south half of Johnson county. Overland Park itself is one of the highest priced living areas. I chose this location one, because I live here in Overland Park, and two, because I was interested to see what resources are available to this county considering the average income and home…
1. Area: The community in which I live is an urban setting located in Central New York. The City of Utica is located in Oneida County. 2. Demographics: With an estimated 61,332 people in the City of Utica according to the U.S Census Bureau, the city has seen a decrease in residency since the formal census conducted in 2010 (Census Bureau). Even with the estimated decrease in population, the city is home to a multitude of races and ethnicities immigrating to the U.S from various countries…
On April 17, 2015, a protest group, which included Eric Sheppard, walked on the American Flag in the front of Odum Library at Valdosta State University. This was in an effort to protest racism in our country. Shortly after, a local veteran, Michelle Manhart, was detained for taking the flag from the protest group in what was her attempt to be able to dispose of the ripped flag properly. She was not charged but was banned from VSU in the future (ValdostaDailyTimes). I could not believe what I was…
t 's been a few years since I 've been to Clementon, so having the day off last Wednesday I took a ride up to see the town. In the 1970s I lived in an apartment on Blackwood-Clementon Road in Lindenwold and had a friend who lived on top of the Park Grill. The town had a distinct look, with its older buildings, pool hall, and feed store – something you don 't usually see at the mall. Most of my time there was spent drinking beer in the Park Grill or drinking beer and eating seafood at the Palm…
Introduction Lumpkin County Parks and Rec was an experience I will never forget. As a future educator, it showed me how to treat children and how not to treat them. The program that I attended was only during the summer and was open from seven in the morning to six in the afternoon. There were around three to four college-aged counselors at a time looking after the children. None of the counselors were 4ducation majors, so they were not learning the different techniques of disciplining and…
I was born in the wrong century; a combination of an imperfect school education and broad parents produced a curious child who dreamed of many different occupations. Growing up in Fayetteville, North Carolina, I’ve seen interests and talents splattered across the entire state. There were Spring Lake Middle School sport coaches who researched different exercises for training players, cross country runners who dabbled in cancer research, and many more occupations. Thus, these people influenced my…
“A Rose for Emily” In the town of Jefferson, Louisiana, Miss Emily Grierson grew up as the only child of an upper classman. Her father sheltered her from the outside world. Leaving her a pauper and alone when he died, because she didn’t know of the outside. So the townspeople of Jefferson felt that was going to be crazy as it ran in her family. William Faulkner’s short story “A Rose for Emily”, the townspeople knew that after her father passed, they were creating an empathic character of Miss…
