    THE WAVE: UNDERSTANDING THE CREATION OF AN IN-GROUP 1. Why were most students in the class prepared to follow the expectations of Mr Ross? The students in the class were prepared to follow the expectations of Mr Ross because of these reasons; the first one being the way his strict teaching style. A second reason they were prepared to follow Mr Ross because it was a new and creative way pulling his students into line and teaching them. Third and in my opinion the most persuasive reason is because it made everyone feel a part of the group, and all the outsiders became the insiders and they felt like they fit in. 2. What part did the creation of “rules” have in creating the expectations and enthusiasm of the class? The rules played a huge part in the experiment because they made the students very enthusiastic to be a part of it. Some of the rules that would have appealed to the students would be the uniform, as they all had to wear the same thing which was blue coloured clothing. Another rules would have been the way that the class had to respond to Mr Ross. The students when answering a question or asking a question were required to stand up and address Mr Ross in a very professional and army like way. For example a student would be asked ‘What is the name of the first president of the United States?’ Someone then stands us and says ‘Mr Ross the answer is George Washington’ and then they would sit back down. 3.
