very first open meeting for Overeaters Anonymous located in the Beebe Memorial CME Temple next to a church in 3900 Telegraph Avenue, Oakland, CA at 6pm. This was the first time in a long time that I felt welcomed into a community of people whom I had just met. I arrived thirty minutes before the meeting and spoke to Louis, the meeting advisor for the night. I let him know I was a student who was taking a class on Addiction and wanted to know if it was okay if I sit in the meeting that night.…
Reflections of an AA Meeting Attendance by a Non-Alcoholic Support Meeting Reflection I attended an online Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. There were twenty-six participants there, including myself; two of which were moderators. I had actually logged on early, as is my habit attending seminars, and observed the other participants chatting beforehand. I was surprised by the lack of seriousness surrounding this whole process. The group members were not somber, in fact they were displaying…
an AA meeting? What is an Al-anon meeting? Do I have a predetermined judgment on the participants in the groups? Do I have a predetermined vision of the atmosphere? Will I be made to participate in the discussion? Do I have a pre-disposition of the gender and race of the participants? All these questions were views in my mind once I received the assignment. The images that I had were blue collar members, participants cursing at each other, the facilitator trying to gain control of the meeting…
1) Cathy v Eric An oral contract exists between Cathy and Eric as the requirements for the existence of a contract were fulfilled. There must be an offer and acceptance that had consideration and an intent to create legal relations. Consideration can be seen between the payment from Cathy to Eric. A term of the oral contract was that Eric’s farm land would be suitable for installing a marquee. This was found false and Cathy had to pay additional costs to prepare the land for the marquee. Hence…
My Alcoholics Anonymous meeting took place in 202 W. Broadway, Anaheim. The whole AA meeting lasted about an hour thirty minutes. The building seems to be an old church that no longer is being used. There was about 25 members who attended that evening’s meeting, and about equal ratio of men and women. When the meeting started one of the member read the AA preamble. Then another member read the actual 12 step list. Seems like everyone remembered the 12 step list, because everyone read…
Staff meeting commences at six thirty the first Tuesday of the month. At most occupations, one would spend approximately an hour going through the motions of how the team is doing, and explaining new tactics to improve the company. My staff meeting was interrupted at roughly six forty-five by word of an emergency Cesarean Section to arrive shortly. In a controlled chaos, the surgical team was able to get the necessary supplies, get the room ready, and bring a baby into the world with some help…
Processing Feelings, opinions and interpretation or analysis of activities This week in field I had the opportunity to sit in on a professional meeting. The meeting was geared towards fund raising and getting awareness out to the community about Southern Christian Services and the services that they offer. The meeting was made up of social workers and several different community business liasons. This was a very different atmosphere for me. I felt like I was outside of my element, because I…
group support session would be like, but this AA meeting exceeded my expectations. I was shocked initially when I found out this was an assignment of ours, then I thought this could be interesting. I didn’t have any concerns or reservations about attending the meeting; I just went into it with a clear and open mind. Honestly, I expected to see a lot of disheveled recovering drunks. I came to the AA meeting alone because I went to the meeting straight from work. Although, I came very early…
Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, I had little knowledge of what actually went on at these meetings. I obviously knew it was for people who identified that they had a drinking problem and wanted to get help, but I did not know the specifics. My Grandfather on my Dad’s side of the family was involved with AA and attended meetings right up until he passed away. Another one of my Dad’s friends who has been arrested multiple times for alcohol related problems also attends these meetings. My previous…
Upon walking into the NA meeting I attended, which was located at Lutheran Memorial Church in their basement on Erial & Blackwood-Clementon Rd, I felt extremely out of place because I am not familiar with this environment making me a “fish out of water”. The meeting was called Miracles on Monday, which is held from 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM every Monday, and I would soon find that the name was very fitting for what takes place within those basement walls on a weekly basis. The normal feelings an addict…
