The night of October 26th, the Concert Chorale, along with several other ensembles, performed at the Meet the Music Department Concert. During this event, the Chorale sang Barso Re, a Hindu piece written by A.R. Rahman and arranged by Ethan Sperry. The song was used in a film titled Guru, and if translated into english, “Barso Re” means “Let It Rain.” A.R. Rahman may also be credited as the writer of the song “Jai Ho,” a Hindu piece heard in the major motion picture, Slumdog Millionaire. While at first glance, the group did a fine job executing the piece effectively, a deeper look at the performance and the music allows certain critiques to be made. Starting off with the positive aspects of the piece, the bases were rather impressive throughout the entirety of the song, keeping time and holding their part even though there were only three of them. In fact, the whole ensemble did well keeping with the beat, not dragging or anything of the sort. This may have been due to the drumming also occurring in Barso Re. To be more specific, in measures 40-44, the dynamics were carried out nicely, this being one of the few times the dynamics were impressive. In measures 57-64, all four parts had a great balance, and one group was not heard more than the other. Also, notes were consistently accurate, which was a problem in the final days of rehearsing, but the Concert Chorale made up for it in the end. On the other hand, there were a numerous amount of negative details to be touched…

Electrical and mechanical functions integrated in the nanoscale range led to the development of the new age devices, Nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS). These devices because of their size, they come with properties such as reduced mass, high quality factor (Q factor) and very high fundamental resonance frequencies. These qualities of NEMS makes them desirable for numerable applications such as components of signal processing devices, actuators and high speed sensors. NEMS can be used to…

the inner end of the plug, and the dissipation force. The top of the air plug acts as single source when it oscillates and will create sound waves. This vibration of the air is due to the springiness of the air. When the air plug is compressed by blowing across the top it increases the pressure inside the bottle and then it bounces back to its original volume. The frequency at which the air inside resonates is unique to the shape of the bottle and depends on the length of the neck, the diameter…

Introduction: The lab experiment on Fabrication and Microwave Frequency Measurement of a ring Resonators was about finding the relative dielectric constant and the response of a ring resonator. These values are found by using a ring resonator and setting a frequency signal to the ring to resonate the signal. This lab also shows how to make the ring resonators from paper or any type of electric device from fabrication. Fabrication is used to print electric devices such as printed circuit boards.…

Before church, I climb the stairs to the upper level of the building and settle myself down in front of a computer to prepare for the service. During the service, I occasionally peer over to look down at the people in the pews below and take note of newcomers and regulars alike. A few hours later and only a few lines to go before my cue, I head behind the curtain with the rest of rude mechanicals. Upon our entrance, the crowd laughs at Bottom preparing for his performance as the illustrious…

If a photon is emitted it is possible for an unpaired electron to leap from one energy level to the other. As we know the energy of a photon to be and the resonance condition to be , we get the equation which is the fundamental equation of electron spin resonance where we can find the microwave resonance frequency. When electromagnetic energy in the microwave range is applied, the magnetic field corresponds to value of approximately 0.35 T which is needed to gain useful ESR spectra. Energies…

As the first speakers started off with today’s presentations, I was really intrigued and fascinated by the Industrial Engineers, Justin Melmick and Zac Stachowiak, as they talked about their job at Universal Studios and I’m pretty sure everybody else was too. Although it started off well, it did not exactly end off too interesting, since I think Dr. Damla Turgut and Dr. Alain Kassab’s presentation seemed kind of dull. I kind of felt like I zoned out during their presentations because I did not…

sustainable technologies because the work of an engineer is to “enable the future” not merely to “foresee” it. As a mechanical engineer and a founder & head for a sustainable technology based start-up I realized the importance of technology enabled sustainability for a healthier and superior future and hence the need for Masters in Mechanical Engineering was felt. I believe that the acquisition of knowledge can never be a discrete accomplishment. It is the culmination of continued effort and the…
