The Chlamydomonas were deflagellated by a low pH shock and were observed for flagellar regeneration in 10 minute intervals for 50 minutes. We found the average number of cells that were motile after 50 minutes of flagellar regeneration was 43.80 cells. The difference in motility before deflagellation and after flagellar regeneration was due to flagellar length. Less motility was observed in…

This title is a direct reflection of the power imbalance and how this imbalance can lead to excessive corruptness. A direct quote in the beginning of this chapter states: “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely”. Socialism is the idea the the government has immediate and ultimate control over all…

    1. In chapter 1, Cohen discusses a capitalist society as one in which individuals hold ownership privately and utilize their skillsets/good fortune for personal gain rather than working towards the benefit of the common body. He seems to paint those operating in capitalist societies as somewhat selfish and self-serving, as illustrated by the example of Harry, who claims he deserves the better fish since he is better at fishing. Furthermore, Cohen illustrates the strained relationships which, in…

    Now suppose there are only finitely many primes congruent to 5 modulo 6, say p_1, ..., p_k. Write M for p_1 * p_2 * ... * p_k and put N = 6M - 1. Now N = 5 (mod 6). If p is a prime divisor of 6 and p | N, then p | N - 6M = 1, a contradiction. This means that 2 and 3 are not prime factors of N. Thus it follows from the lemma that every prime p | N is either 1 or 5 mod 6. If every such prime is 1 mod 6, then N would be as well, a contradiction, so there is some prime p | N that is congruent to 5…
