Real Love One of my all-time favorite songs is Real Love by Mary J. Blige. In it she details her quest for love, and describes the real love she has been searching for. I completely understand how she felt; as I search for real love. Through the process, I learned some valuable lessons; and gained wisdom on this quest. I want to use this post to share some things that I learned on this journey. Be what you are searching for! I always tell my friends, “You have to be a whole person before anyone can love you.” I know people who want to be in love so bad that they rush the process. They are not complete individuals and they haven’t discovered their true selves. They are messy and jacked up! In the bible it says, “Love is patient, love is kind” you need to master these before you get into a relationship. If you are frustrated and miserable, you can’t expect love that will be patient, and love that will be kind. The only love you receive is love that will be frustrated and miserable. This is why I say be what you are searching for. If you want love that is patient; learn some…

The frantic scrambling of pencils on paper, and fingers on the keyboard are in pursuit of receiving full credit. That moment when time seems to move faster than I ever thought possible. If only I could squeeze a few more ounces of time out of what little I have left. These are the thoughts that surface in my mind on quite a routine basis. These thoughts are brought upon by an all too stressful reality that I for whatever reason am too stubborn to avoid. No matter how great of an attempt I make…

I lived a very fortunate life. My life was not perfect, but there wasn’t much I had to worry about. Tragedy had never entered before. All of that changed when I was informed of horrifying news one January afternoon. There are two days that I can recall perfectly. The first one was the day my granny had a stroke. The second was the day she passed away. I was in physical therapy with my mom for my back. She got a phone call and I knew the second she answered it something was not right. She…

The Character of Work The simple definition of work as provided by Meriam-Webster is “a job or activity that you do regularly, especially in order to earn money” (Work, n.d.). While, this is a simple definition of work, I believe it is not the type of work that defines a person but their work character which defines them. To understand the importance of what one does to earn a living, and whether or not work defines them, one should explore these ideas through the works of Dorothy Sayers,…

Happiness is a hard thing to come by and a goal most people try to achieve. They wander around searching for a purpose in life never imagining the world without their existence, but I 've learned that happiness is achieved not through riches or status but by making the best with the hand you 're dealt. “Bre come eat breakfast!” My mom shouted up the stairs. I jumped out of bed, feeling good, thinking, this is the day to ace my class presentation. In history, we had to create a class presentation about the Civil War, and we had to include dates of what day that event happened, etc. I grabbed a pair of my extremely tight jeans, my extremely baggy, ACDC t-shirt, and my old, dirty, pair of white high top, Chuck Taylors, and I ran down the stairs, getting dressed on my way down. When I got to the…

The Ultimate Goal From childhood some of us are taught a particularly disturbing philosophy, to be physically attractive equals success or happiness. To be the “skinny one”, to be appealing, and if we achieve this, everything else in life will just follow. I would be lying if I said that scared little girl inside my heart didn’t still believe this to be true to some extent, but with age came wisdom but we’ll get to this a little later. Seeing all the “pretty” people on tv, movies, ads, even in…

Nobody Believed “You will never do it”, my mom said to me. Everyone has goals in their life. Some people go straight to their goals, and they don’t look at hard times. They don’t give up in any situation. Other people give up when they have hard times. They never get what they want. It is better to be a person that goes straight to their goals. I am that person, I had three goals, lose weight, enter to a university and find work that I will love. Everything began when I was 14…
