To me, Astronomy is the science relative to space. It is the answer to very natural questions: the exploration of time and space. When I go and wonder about what there is above the sky, or what was there at the beginning, astronomy, through its different sections (such as planetary, cosmology etc…) helps me to answer this questions. I’m grateful to live in an age already advanced in this matter. However, there is so much more to explore, and so much more answer to find, and finding these answers…
Thesis: Pluto is a dwarf planet, dwarf planets are just like regular planets but much smaller, dwarf planets do not clear the path around the sun. The fascinating dwarf planet Pluto is much more petite than the other planets in our Solar System, which makes it a dwarf planet but that is not the only reason why. In the solar system the dwarf planet does not complete the neighborhood around Pluto’s orbit which means it doesn’t clear the path around the sun, this is another reason why Pluto is a…
The moon phases are caused by the sun illuminating or lighting up one side of the moon. The sun is always illuminating one-half of the moon, depending on what place you are on Earth. That also affects what moon phase you see in The Lunar Cycle. The Lunar Cycle start with the New moon and then goes along to Waxing Crescent, Waxing Gibbous, then the Full moon. The cycle still continues on for Waning Gibbous Waning Crescent till it comes back to a New moon. This cycle continues about every 29 days…
similar core that is made out of mostly iron. The Jovian planets are composed of mostly hydrogen and helium. They also all have some type of water, usually as water vapor. When it comes to magnetic fields, all of the planets have one except for Venus and Mars. They do have some type of magnetic force, but they are not the same as they are for the other planets. Jupiter has the strongest magnetic field due to its size and the fact that it rotates very quickly. When it comes to atmosphere, many…
According to science a planet is a celestial body that is in the orbit of the sun, has a certain mass and has cleared the neighborhood around its orbit. A dwarf planet is also a celestial body that orbits the sun, has a certain mass, but has not cleared the neighborhood around its orbit and is not a satellite. This is what we use to classify planets but we don’t have an actual definition for the word planet. Pluto has been a part of our solar system for a long time now, but the question is Pluto…
been on the surface of Mars for more than eight years, but sadly the spirit rover only made it to six years. Opportunity and the Spirit rover are NASA’s twin Mars Rovers. NASA's Spirit rover landed on Mars January 4, 2004, and was launched June 10, 2003. The amount of time that NASA planned Spirit was 90 days, but as you can tell they went a little over 90 days(2100 days over to be exact!). The…
Mars, a planet that contains the possibility of allowing humans to live somewhere other than earth. However, this can lead to multiple questions as with the colonization of Mars will also lead to the beginning of a completely new society. This idea of a new martian society, will lead to questions about what laws, clocks, and calendars should this new Martian society use. Additionally, with the colonization of Mars also comes the concern of unknown diseases and illness that comes from living in a…
might be to try to live on Mars. President Obama and President Trump have been supporting Nasa to be able to send people to Mars by the 2030’s. Astronauts have had many “trials” (living in a small space with other people for 6-12 months) around the world. Nasa thinks it will take about 6 months each way to Mars and the astronauts would have to live on Mars for about 2 years as they wait for the planets to realign for their trip home. The astronauts have a plan to colonize Mars, grow plants and…
Do Not Colonize Mars Did you know that if the dust storms on Mars are large enough, they could knock out the sun for days? That is one of the inconveniences of inhabiting Mars. There are many people who think we should colonize Mars, and some people disagree. I believe that we should not colonize Mars. First, the weather on Mars is intense. The weather is extremely frigid. The article “What Would It Take to Live Here” states, “ The average temperature is -81 degrees Fahrenheit.” (p. 19)…
cause a need for space ship and some other technological advances portrated in the movies. Maybe even in the near future teleportation will be in and walking will be the thing of the past. While it may be far fetched to say we’re gonna be living on mars soon, don’t be surprised to see someone possibly using the force to get their way in the near…
