    Madam C.I. Walker Imagine waking up one morning and being an African American woman with natural hair. You walk into your bathroom and notice that all of your hair products are empty and that you need to restock. You then grab your keys and head for the nearest Sally Beauty Salon to pick up all of your hair products. The door opens and you are walking down the aisle to find your hair products, but all the products are gone that are designed for your hair. Luckily, that is where Madam C.J. Walker comes in to save the day. Without her, who knows if African American women would have products for their hair? Before all of her success with her beauty products, she started out just like everyone else. She was a baby inside her mother’s womb. When Madam C.J. Walker was born, she didn’t have that name, her name was Sarah Breedlove and was birthed on December 23, 1867. Her parents’ names were Owen and Minerva Breedlove, who were recently freed slaves. Due to the fact Sarah was born while her parents were freed slaves she was the first in her family to be a free born. Her mother died in 1874 and father passed away the next year, both dying of yellow fever. Sadly, Sarah becomes an orphan at the age of seven. After her parent’s passing away, she had to live with her sister and brother in law in Vicksburg, Mississippi in 1877.
