This past week I had the opportunity to attend the internship fair here at Marist College. I got to experience talking to professionals about future internship and employment opportunities available for me as a student. From this, I learned about different companies while keeping my options open to future employers. Upon entering the career fair, I made use of my time by talking to as many companies as I could that I saw were looking for communications and fashion majors. I talked to nine companies in total including, 24 Seven Inc., Bed Bath & Beyond, Haddad Brands, Highwire PR, Indeed.com, Kohl’s, Macy’s, Ross, and TJX Companies. I asked each employer about his or her location, internship opportunities, and about different reasons why they…

“What we have to do... is to find a way to celebrate our diversity and debate our differences without fracturing our communities,” noted by Hilary Clinton. Recently, I took the time to observe all of the different diversity happening at Marist College. After observing students and how they interacted, one particular group of individuals struck my eyes. In my opinion, the most diverse group of individuals on campus are international students. Not only do they create diversity on campus, but they…

about these things has been because of my involvement on Marist Brother’s Model United Nations (MUN) program. Through this program I have learned so much about the problems that challenge the world daily in every country, how countries cooperate and work together to mitigate these issues, and how to lead others. Being a committee chair has challenged me to get outside of my comfort zone and become a good leader. This entails many things, such as being able to organize and communicate…

In my family as well as in a majority of families across the country college is a must. I always knew, even in my youth, that after I finished high school I would be getting ready for a four year college experience. It was pretty much a no-brainer. My parents preached to me how competitive the world is becoming and the only way to succeed is with a college degree. I told myself that I decided to go to college solely to please my parents but deep down I knew I felt obligated to go for myself. I…

The Washington Post (which once was a subsidiary owner of Kaplan Inc., an education service provider) proclaimed that these assessments are the most objective material when admitting students to college (Alterman). The next most objective material is GPA and class rank, but due to various high school courses and grading systems, “no college can possibly know what an A-minus or B-plus means in each of the thousands of high schools their applicants attend” (The Washington Post). stereotyped as not a sport. However, as a student athlete I totally agree that it is a sport and deserves to be viewed as such. The culture created by the sport is one of actually fierce competition. Our country is one founded upon this type of survival of the fittest. Cheer culture appears to be one similar to most sport cultures in America. In my opinion only in a country such as America can an activity like cheer can thrive and become a major event for millions of people to compete and watch.…

children to work hard, do well, and earn a college degree, then they will get a job. Many would argue that this philosophy helped the older generation be successful in their educational and post-educational careers, so it should not be changed; however, in the words of Ken Burns, “the problem is that the current system of education was designed…

Up program was introduced, I had a fair idea of what I was intending to study, but I remained unsure and had made no further necessary decisions about my post-secondary education. The reason I had not even thought about what university I wanted to go to or what career I wanted to pursue was due to a lack of resources and guidance. My parents, although always supportive of me, were limited as to what they could help me with when it came to making academic decisions beyond high school as they had…
