    Do you know what a catapult is and how it operates? A catapult is a device or technology that helps planes take off the USS Midway when the planes carry a lot of weight like fuel and weapons. Catapult on an aircraft carrier works on steam power. Catapults were chosen on aircraft carrier because they are capable of carrying a lot of weight on a takeoff. The aircraft weight is confirmed by the weight Board Operator. Catapult technology affected the Uss Midway ship because it helps planes take off faster when they carry heavy weight. On the USS Midway they used Steam power on the catapults. The steam is produced by a boiler that is stored in an accumulator below the ship’s deck. The newer Catapults on the US carriers will have electromagnetic catapults that saves a lot of space and speed up the process of launching aircraft's. Catapults on aircraft carrier had the ability to carry a lot of weight. They were able to carry more than 10,000 pounds from 0-200 knots over a 300-foot distance in less than 3 seconds. Catapult reduced takeoff and landing runway length. The aircraft weight is confirmed by the Weight Board operator. According to Patrik Lundstrom, “The catapult operator is given the weight of the plane and sets the catapult to the correct force.
