At the age of 11, Peter joined the college named Trinity College School in Port Hope, Ontario. Due to the transfer of his father in 1950 to its Ottawa headquarters, Jennings changed his college to Lisgar Collegiate Institute in Ottawa, Canada. Peter worked at CJOH-TV in Ottawa, Canada, anchored a local newscast, on Saturday, hosted a teen dance show, and Saturdays Date. In 1965, Jennings was hired to anchor its flagship evening news program by ABC News channel. In 1968, Peter worked as a foreign correspondent due to reporting from Middle-East.
