Breath awareness. This type of mindfulness technique is rooted from Buddhism traditions. In Buddhist traditions it is called Anapansati Sutra. It is the simple act of breathing in and breathing out. It is the basis of any meditation program (Burke, 2016). Body scanning. Body scanning involves focusing on different areas of the body and non-judgmentally noticing heightened areas of stress. It is generally done while laying down and takes a minimum of 30 minutes to complete. The purpose of the body scan is to bring awareness to each part of the body, to see how it is, not to think of it judgmentally (Valentine, 2007). Loving Kindness Meditation. This is also known as “metta” meditation. Metta is the Pali word meaning “universal love”. The meditation starts with developing a loving acceptance of yourself, and then systematically sending loving-kindness to other people present in your life (Ven Pannyavaro, 2012). This type of meditation is used as a tool for empathy awareness that helps to increase social connectedness, or build camaraderie within a group using mindfulness…

are looked after more because they require less demands than other things, but does that mean to not give enough attention to the things that require more? People focus on loving and caring for things that do not need it and spend less time focusing on loving and caring for the things that do need it. Lydia describes how this parent treats their son badly…

What is the difference between an angel and a demon? They began in the same place, and are powerful in doing what they want. Both are persuasive and influential in their dealings with others. The difference is their goals and their motives; angels protect kindness and order and demons advocate chaos and cruelty. Many times in literature, characters will represent the idea of angels versus demons. One such case is The Lord of the Flies by William Golding. In this book, Simon represents all things…

It’s hard to establish credibility in a story that is entirely made up and it’s all based on the reader whether or not they want to believe in the ideas presented or if they want to refute them entirely. Speaking for my group, we believe in the ideals presented in the book and wish to bring some of them about through the span of our lives, showing compassion and kindness when we can and trying to spread happiness to everyone around us. But some people may not believe in these ideals and may…

In fact, it is more than arguable that life shows even less kindness to real people than those existing between the well-worn covers of books. After all, The Alchemist (or most novels for that matter) wouldn’t be much of a story if our protagonist Santiago ended up dying in the desert rather than finding his treasure. Life, however, has no such responsibilities to provide a warm and fuzzy resolution to people’s crusades, and a cursory glance at the outside world is more than enough to dispel…

Downdraft 5 Someone once asked me if I could write a book about myself what would the title be and how do I see the ending of my life. I would title my book, “Why Naughty is the New Nice”. The reason for this title is because I am probably one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. I would do absolutely anything for anyone. Always being the nice girl means I work my ass off to get others to like me because I cannot stand to think that anyone hates me. I usually go out of my way to do favors for…

My Scarlet Letter Everybody has the tendency to be nice. Some people are just too rude. We see people who have one side of them, helping the elderly walk across the street, or help them with their groceries. Like me, some people are just too nice to others. Can kindness be taught ? Is kindness inherited or does it need to be taught? For years people have spent time after time seeking the answer of this question. I have researched a little bit on this topic according to the article titled “Can compassion and empathy be learned” by Dorrie Fontain. I have found the answer and it’s simple, kindness can be taught. A person can teach them self to be kind by implementing these three traits: respect, empathy and compassion. To start it seems nowadays that…
