He is very clear on all of the points he makes, and his statements are also very relevant to what he is trying to say. He spends a lot of time deeply discussing guessers and Semmelweis, and overall he does well in being specific with the statements he makes. He doesn’t spend enough time supporting his premises accuracy; however, Vonnegut’s reasoning from these propositions is quite sound. The greatest flaw in his essay is that Vonnegut doesn’t discuss any opposing viewpoints: he exhibits fairness in his development from different starting points, but he doesn’t spend time presenting other lines of reasoning. Vonnegut’s essay clearly shows the dangers of guessing and the heroicness of one who acts out of knowledge in a persuasive and intellectually honest way.…
