Is it necessary to have cameras present in the courtroom? In many states, cameras are permissible in trial and appellate courts. But the main concern is if cameras should be acceptable in court during a hearing. A lot of people in society believe that recording devices should not be allowed in court as it can influence a case during this important phase and therefore cause problems for the state and federal court system. Take for example, the Scott Peterson case. Peterson was lucky as murder…
I start creating my work by replaceing traditional lighting associated with photgraphy with the lighting of tv screens. Then I continue following an image by also removing the figure as the main portion of the image , to make the figure less important. Finally, when i capture these images I use long exposures which creates a stillness of the image, except for the human figure, which creates this blurr and motion in the image. My images are a series of self portriats. I spend time setting up…
Photography plays a vital role in framing trauma, such as in the events of the September 11 attacks; the many images produced in the wake of the tragedy shaped its transformation from a national trauma to history. For one, photography is a strategy for coping. A number of people have noted the desire to inexplicably record anything and everything for themselves during disaster, as if maybe capturing those moments would make them more real to their shocked selves or illustrate some hidden…
Overview The use of photography can be found in various areas such as post-graduate research studies, graduate programs, undergraduate courses, and K-12 educational programs with varying degrees of use over the years. (Close, 2007) In recently years, digital photography has seen a renewed use in areas of research and deep inquiry. (Close, 2007) For example, Diane Matar, a Social Work Education research, used photography in a research study of over 100 politically displaced people in Britain to…
I am particularly proud of the portfolio piece titled “Storyboard Photography - Model Car”. This was a very personal project to me, and I wondered how could I represent and photograph instances of the lifelong adventures I’ve had with my mother’s car. Discovering a replica model car, I realized I would be able to make sets to photograph the car’s story. This story takes place during a seasonal shift, and to show that I had to create appropriate environments. Any household resources I found were…
There are many film techniques involved in the film Julia. The movie Julia begins with a one camera shot, which adds the appreciation of the entrance. After the opening, the water images use the technique of lap dissolve to transition to the scene of the actor is talking. While the character is typing on the type writer admiring the world, she gets up to leave the room, and the technique of panning is used to follow her into the other room. Panning is used throughout the whole movie, but this is…
The debate which argues whether the artistic and scientific medium of photography captures images of an accurate and unbiased reality or merely an impression or interpretation of a moment in time, is one which is just as relevant now as it was at photograph’s conception. Considering the length of time which this has been pertinent, William Henry Fox Talbot and Paul Graham are interesting artists to compare and contrast. The first being one of the early pioneers of the photographic movement, a…
photojournalism and photo essays, often getting published in many magazines, which were just becoming illustrated as mass reproduction was becoming more feasible. he employed the same methods as Steichen only much more advance by this time. Kodak cameras now popular and house hold objects, small enough to carry. The mid 1900s marked a period of pressure for significant photographs in the ever-growing media database. Magazines had growing clientele and photo journalism was on the rise for the…
Communication theories help create an understanding of different perspectives happening in particular events. I recently went through a critical incident that made me realize the differences in photography norms and how tension can create contradictions in my relationships. During October of last year, my sister-in-law contacted me to take photos for her family, including my oldest brother and their newborn. The photos were special because they only had a few of them together from a tripod, but…
In the movie Children of Men directed by Alfonso Cuarón, the director used many film techniques to slow down the barn scene to make it a critical point in the film. This scene comes right after a highspeed chase and the rebel group choosing a new leader. Moreover, this scene needed to be in the movie to give Theo a motive to finish his mission in helping Kee. Before this scene, Theo was doing it to rekindle his romance with Julian and was ready to abandon the group. Cuarón does an excellent job…
