Plants are essential for life on earth; they are the backbone of all life. Plants are considered as autotrophic organisms, seeing as they are able to produce their own food. They are a crucial resource for many different uses, as plants are primary producers; everything we eat comes directly or indirectly from them (Schaffner, 2010). They provide a whole range of useful products, including food, fibres for cloth, and energy sources. Wood, coal and natural gas are all sourced from plants, these…
affect the structural composition of leaves. In order to identify a relationship, we compared leaf traits including mass, thickness, and area, from leaves collected at the treetop and at the bottom of the canopy. We sampled leaves from branches of four mature Acer platanoides trees. To determine the xylem tension we measured the pressure…
Rose was relaxing at her favourite spot in the country, sitting under the big willow tree. She observed the snowdrop flowers that popped through the moist earth in the early spring. Watching the bubbling brook that wound its way through the field, past patches of lavender while she listened to the birds singing their songs of spring. Her dirty blonde hair blew in the breeze and her young green eyes shone brightly. She had never shown her special place to anyone. As far as she knew, no one else…

The chapter “...So Does Season” from How Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster demonstrates the use of season associating with characters and the setting. As said by Foster, spring is associated with “childhood and youth” (186) because of the new birth of flowers and nature; however, the birth of Frankenstein’s creation takes on the day of a “dreary night of November” (Shelley, 56). This quotes foreshadows hardships on the life of the creature because of the on a “dreary night”…
According to the International Snowmobiler Manufacturers Association, the average age of a snowmobiler is 44 years old, and there are over 3,000 snowmobile clubs worldwide involved in trail grooming and family activities (Snowmobiling). From the day I was born, I have been a part of a local snowmobile club because of my parents’ love and commitment for the sport. With over 3,000 active snowmobile clubs worldwide and at least 250 in Minnesota, there is the opportunity to become involved, but the…

I had recently woken up and was still in bed. I reached over to grab my pack of Juicy Fruit and pop two pieces in my mouth. I checked my clock and it was 6:00 AM. I noticed my covers were alongside my bed. That's weird, I mean for normal people but I have a tendency for sleepwalking so I guess it’s pretty normal. “Shoot! Dammit!” I whispered as I remembered my science project was due 1st period. “Oh no no no, C’mon!” I followed up with after I opened my computer and it started to buzz and whir…
Results When we look at the results we must compare a native to a non-native to determine if the hypothesis is true. We determined earlier that we will compare American holly with Japanese privet, red bay with Florida anise tree, and kalmia with rhododendron. The American holly seemed to have more healthy leaves than the holly but not by much. The holly had 127 leaves with no damage while the privette had 139 leaves with no damage. The holly then had 97 leaves with less than ten percent damage…
