strong and tough. Being a great shooter is also a deadly component. So, basically if you have all of these traits your guaranteed success, I guess. But what people don’t think about is how silly we look playing the game and practicing. We have to learn all the fundamentals about how to shoot the “right way”, how to pass, how to lay the ball up, how to dribble, and how to play defense “correctly.” But I wonder, who came up with the “right way?” Why is it there a correct way of doing all of these things when different ways, work for different people? In this essay I am going to explore the different components of basketball and explain how odd we look to outsiders. A layup in basketball is when you lay the ball up with your hand while jumping then gliding through the air. Coaches teach us that when you are shooting a layup you should always keep the ball up and have a soft touch. When you are driving from the right, you use your right hand and jump off of your left…

Running down the court, having the mindset that no one can guard me. I have the ball, she just missed the lay-up. I’m running I’m so close to the basket. Layup, lay-up, layup, then I fall. All that’s next is this pain, a pain that I knew couldn’t be serious. I get up I’m okay at least I think I’m okay. I’m walking it off in pain, All I’m thinking about is nothing can happen to me the season is about to start. I walk. I walk. I’m okay now, but am I? By the way, the pain was in my knee, but next…

We worked on ball handling, layups, free throws, shooting, defense, and conditioning. I was showing a great effort. I was a lot more confident than I was last time. The coach was using me to help show the rest of the player 's the drills. When was doing suicides I was really tired, but I knew that I had to show the coach that I did not get tired quickly. Tryouts ended. The coach called a bunch of the boys that tried out. I was kind of nervous because I was thinking that maybe the boys he called…

The layup is the easiest shot to perform in basketball. This technique will usually be used to score the most points in a game. It is quick, simple and when done correct it can’t be denied by the opposition. The layup has three phases, the dribbling phase, the stepping phase and the jumping/landing phase. The muscles used are forearm, biceps, trapezius, deltoids, gastrocnemius, quads, wrist. The layup uses a lot of flexion and extension of muscles and joints. In the dribbling phase your quads…

The score is 9 us and 13 Creede. I sit down on the bench and Brown begins to talk to us, “We need to rebound better! Other than that you’re playing good.” After Brown’s speech we make our way back to the floor. I go to Alex and tell him that the defence is over playing me and to watch for the back door cut. With about 5 minutes left in the half we run down the court after a defensive stop. Alex barks out “41! 41!” I notice my defender is overplaying me like I told Alex. I look at Alex and give…

Stokes scored 15 points apiece as Kansas State dished No. 7 West Virginia University its second straight loss on Saturday. “We haven’t had that edge and we need to get that edge back,” head coach Bob Huggins said. Trailing by three with 25 seconds remaining Esa Ahmad's turnover turned costly allowing Brown to finish with the fast-break layup to give the Wildcats a 78-73 lead. Daxter Miles Jr.'s tipin with seven seconds remaining cut the deficit to three but Brown made a free throw to put the…

    NBA 2K17: A Stupid Game

I think NBA 2K17 is a stupid game because you really can’t do anything cool on there anymore. You try to do moves but nothing happens and it’s very frustrating when I want to break someone's ankles. The ball gets stolen every time and I get mad at the game. I’ve gotten so mad at it before that I almost snapped the game. You can’t hit layups on there ever. It’s hard to play sometimes because they changed the controls. This game is stupid. My favorite player derrick rose is trash in the game.…

    1. The sport and level I chose is based on the age and sport in which I coach. I chose basketball and the age of my athletes will be 10 or 11 year olds, which would be 5th or 6th grade. They are at a beginner level, which means they either never played basketball before or have 1 year or less under their belt. 2. Based on them being at a beginner level, I would expect them to be able to dribble with their dominant hand, know basic passes, a basic layup, and possibly know the correct shooting…

championship. They have not lost a game yet. We won the first game. So we had to play them again. Winner takes all. The score is 11 to 11. I am guarding the point guard from Spotswood. He crosses over. I stumble really bad. I just got my ankles broke! The crowd is getting very hype right now. I get up after he made the three pointer. We are now loosing 14 to 11. Josh gets a steal kicks it to Trent at the free throw line and he makes the jumper. I check it up, pass it to Josh, and he drives in…

points. “ Sure why not?”, Brynn replied. So they started up the game. “You can have ball first Sydney”, Brynn told her. “Seriously, okay”, Sydney replied surprised. Sydney scored 2 points right away and then Brynn stole the ball from Sydney. Again Sydney was surprised at how much better Brynn got. “How much did you practice last night Brynn”, she asked. Brynn replied, “I stayed up until one in the morning last night because of how bad I want to be on this team. I want to feel like a winner for…
