    Lady Of Shalott Essay

    • 749 Words
    • 3 Pages

In Part I, readers see the isle of Shalott with its tall towers and imprisoned, fairy-like Lady. The interior where she is embowered is “silent” and immovable, whereas the world outside hums along in a busy and cheerful way. The placement of the great city of Camelot by the river emphasizes the progress, purposefulness, and ever-present sense of movement and vitality of the men and women outside of the tower, in stark contrast to the Lady of Shalott. The fact that there exists a connection between the inhabitants of Camelot and the Lady but that it is mysterious and magical further emphasizes the distinction between the realms of the external world and the tower. In Part II, readers are introduced to the Lady herself, who is under the spell of a mysterious curse that does not allow her to look out her window. She seems happy regardless, and she spends her days weaving her “magic web” and singing (alluding to Odysseus’s wife, Penelope, who weaves while her husband is away, and other myths that involve a woman’s weaving). Her web, a symbol of artistic fecundity but also of her enslavement,…

Do you feel like the camera or the narrative? The uses of POV shots in The Lady in the Lake and Black Mirror The point of view shots have been used as a great component in both The Lady in the Lake (Robert Montgomery, 1947) and Black Mirror’s Christmas Special (Otto Bathurst, 2014). Although both films share the same purpose of applying the point of shot, to endow the audience with certain narrative’s perspective in order to arouse pathos on the character(s) or the scene(s), yet the same…

I am writing to appeal my Faculty Scholarship at Our Lady of The Lake University. In my first semester of 2014-2015 academic school year I obtained a GPA of 1.76. Regardless of the difficulties I had transitioning from high school to college, I admit, my GPA being that low is my entire fault. In the fall I simply did not know what it took to be a successful college student. I was still a naïve high school student who thought getting through college would be just as easy as high school. With…

Museum call out to the academic lovers. My calling, however, comes from Stow Lake, and Strawberry Hill. The man-made lake with an island in the middle, better known as Stow Lake, is filled with colorful pedal boats, a waterfall, and a Chinese pavilion. I would love to be able to enjoy a picnic at the park on one of the eight picnic tables they have. There are many restaurants and cuisines to choose from. The opportunity to use my camera to capture the beauty of surrounding bridges, turtles,…

Malory includes the characteristic of a braver and nobler hero in his work, Le Morte d’Arthur, much like he included the characteristic of supernatural events . For instance in “The Coronation of Arthur,” Arthur pulls the sword multiple times from the stone. The nobles do not believe Arthur could be the successor to the throne and so they ignore that he has pulled the sword.
