    another melody. There are only four melodies in the entire song which two are the exact same. The other two are different melodies with different sounds. Throughout most of the song when the melodies aren’t playing, all you hear is the vocals and the drum machine. The melodies are only played in the chorus and not in any of the verses that had someone rapping over them. This made me think and I feel like they did this to put the spotlight on the melodies. I also noticed that the melodies were never progressed by another melody and that the first two melodies played were played for four bars while the last two melodies played for eight bars. Out of the four, the two same melodies were sampled from Kraftwerk's song "Trans Europe Express". Kraftwerk is a German electronic music band who released "Trans Europe Express" in 1977 and five years later in 1982 was when Afrika Bambaataa & the Soulsonic Force released “Planet Rock”. The melodies were altered so it sounded sharper and had more attack, but still generally the same sound. The rhythm of the song was the same and pretty consistent throughout the song. Rhythm is defined as the combination of long and short musical values and since this song is monophonic the only parts besides the melodies that have long and short values would be the synthesized sounds throughout the song.
