A business can never totally eradicate risk but can bring it to a manageable level. In this respect, anti-money laundering regulations and procedures can help organizations to manage this risk. One of the most famous practice based on the set regulations, is the concept of Know Your Client (worldwide known also as “KYC”). Knowing your client procedure requires the appropriate identification of the client and based on that, banks are alerted to any suspicious activities and transactions that may happen. Through this study, we will evaluate the AML measures that banks must apply to all clients to be able to categorize them. Viewed from this perspective banks would not face the temptation of engaging with high-risk customers and PEPs thus strengthening the fight against corruption. Nonetheless, through experience and tighter controls, many of these crimes can be detected and thus, prevented especially when focusing on the link between corruption and money laundering.
