    Kinesin Synthesis

Our logic for choosing kinesin for developing CNS therapeutics is based upon our own research, which found that kinesins are transcriptionally upregulated during memory storage and that they are both necessary and sufficient to induce long-term memory storage (LTM) in the marine snail, Aplysia californica (Puthanveettil et al., 2008; Fig 1). Furthermore, other researchers have also discovered that an increase in specific kinesin function in the mouse forebrain improves working memory (Wong et al., 2002; Fig 1). Kinesin is also important in mediating cell division and thus this specific function has been explored for tumor growth inhibition in the development of cancer therapeutics (e.g. Song et al., 2013). These efforts have led to the development of kinesin inhibitors, though none has…

The transmission of signals across neurons relies on proper release of neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters are released from synaptic vesicles after they move down the axon and fuse across the cleft. This vesicle transport depends on the protein kinesin which moves synaptic vesicles down the axon to the synapse for release. The inability to move a vesicle down the axon will be kinesin related since kinesin is linked principally with organelles that travel in the anterograde direction on the…

However, the action of Toxin B it is slightly different. After 180 seconds the average speed for paramecium under the influence of Alcohol is slightly higher than at control values. This is because, alcohol in small concentrations and quick exposure promote cell motility whereas the continued exposure to high levels has an entire antagonist effect (Sisson, 2007, p.1). On paramecium, the prolonged exposure to 20Mm alcohol produced the loss of cell motility after 1600 seconds. In fig. 1 it is…

    Melanosomes Lab Report

    • 1045 Words
    • 5 Pages

It is hypothesized that motor proteins, dynein and kinesin control the transport of melanosomes into melanocyte dendrites as it is the net sum of cytoskeletal forces on an organelle that regulate intracellular transport. Dynein typically walk towards the minus-end of a microtubule in retrograde transport while kinesin move towards the plus-end in anterograde transport in neurons. The purpose of the article was to determine the role and effect of cytoplasmic dynein in melanosome transport in…

10 seconds, uncoiled for 30 seconds, moved only its’ head for 10 seconds and then it’s body started to move away for another 10 seconds. Another bumped into another worm for 30 seconds, coiled for 20 seconds and wiggled for 10 seconds, the last one did not move the whole time. Overall, the worms in plate C did not move much, if hardly at all. The movement of the wild type worms differed from the movement of the two mutant strains of worms as the wild type moved faster and could use most of their…

attaches to the spindle midzone, where it can phosphorylate other proteins in order to prepare the cells for cytokinesis. Aurora B and Kif2b A number of studies have reported that Aurora B is important for the bipolar chromosome orientation (Bakhoum, et al., 2008; Maia, et al., 2010; Murata-Hori & Wang, 2002). Merotelic attachment occurs when one kinetochore is attached to two spindle arrays coming out from two centrosomes at the opposite poles of the cells (Gregan, et al., 2011). However, the…
