Yes, for this assignment I was able to spend three and a half hours researching critics and other theorists who have written about the impact of bears in Alaska and the changes they face. From studying the different critic approaches to the concepts that I will be writing on, one of the things that I noticed was that while many discuss the lives and habitats of Alaskan brown bears. The critics will often times state that the lives of these bears are changing, one critic that mentioned this was Suring, who while studying the effects on brown bears on the Kenai Peninsula, pointed out that in many areas bear populations and their habits were declining due to human encroachment and interaction. This assumption was also brought up in a special committee report for brown bears in Alaska, which mentions that while there was an increase in interactions between humans and bears. It also states that there are several causes for this increase such as shrinking habitats and changing food supplies, which means that Alaska’s food sources for its wildlife will…

the mood tends to change. For example, the mood changes from happy to sad in less than a day. Kenai went from happy, to excited, to disappointed, then determined, then to grief in less than twenty minutes. The main moods for the movie would probably have to be happy and sad. There are multiple important characters in Brother Bear, however, the three I would choose would be: Kenai, Koda, and Sitka. Kenai is the main character in the story who gets turned into a bear by Sitka to be taught a…

animal, then both Disney films and oral folktales use that character's transfiguration to teach him or her (and sometimes others) valuable life lessons, including humility, friendship, respect, and other virtues. Today, a lot of people call Alaska The Last Frontier. Alaska is referred to as a wilderness that is unsettled, covered in snow, not accessible, remote, and a very intense land where very few tough pioneers traveled to. Hope, a small town on the Kenai Peninsula, gives Alaska a frontier spirit. Hope was the location for the first gold discovery in Alaska in 1896 and gold was the mainstay of the Alaskan economy. The gold rush caused the building of railways to extract minerals. More recently,…

this may sound crazy, but this “Turtle” is actually a tarantula whom I haven’t exactly named yet. Long story short, I brought him to school last year and the girls didn't want to see him so I said that he was a turtle so that they would come catch a glimpse. Afterward I jokingly called him turtle and haven’t renamed him officially. Anyways… My next pet is a Western Box tortoise that is roughly three years old. There isn’t much to his story except that he was given to us by our aunt and uncle in…

Alaskans are exposed to many experiences, adventures and opportunities that some of the lower 48 doesn’t have. I’ve lived in Anchorage, Alaska my whole life with my mom, dad, sister, dog (Jake), and for the past three years, my step-dad and his three kids. Both my mom, dad, and step-dad were born in Alaska, grew up in the lower…

Over the last few decades, populations of Chinook – or King – Salmon have dropped to all time lows in Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula. Three years ago the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADFG) significantly tightened their restrictions on King Salmon fishing in general and particularly a type of fishing called setnetting (where fishermen employ large nets to catch massive quantities of fish). Since then the King Salmon numbers have been slowly rising to 24,000 fish last season and projections for…

There are several people in the state who earn all of their income through either chartering fishing trips for the beasts of the rivers or selling their derivatives and many more who depend on the subsequent tourism to keep hotels, small airlines, and other locally owned…
