mistakes, regardless of the consequences. By addressing this counterargument he is contradicting himself because he said that even he would choose a more experienced doctor, but by doing this, he is building a rapport with the readers and increasing his credibility by sharing that he too knows that it is hard to allow people to practice on their loved ones. Not correcting mistakes can and will lead to terrible complications. “When things go wrong, it is usually because a series of failures conspires to produce disaster”, not just one mistake causes complications, it’s unfixed mistakes that build up (64). That is what happened with Dr. Hank Goodman he never corrected his mistakes and that led to injuring patients. In one of the chapters near the end of part 1 of the book, Gawande tells a story of a surgeon who is referred to as Dr. Hank Goodman. Goodman had been a well appreciated orthopedic surgeon who had many success stories and who used to be a respected surgeon and even a doctor in the military. Journey’s End by R.C. Sherriff is a play that details the psychological toll on military officers assigned to trench warfare during World War I. War is and has always been one of the most psychologically taxing activities of the human race. History books or even accurate reenactments do very little to help people identify with those who had to fight for their beliefs or freedom. The perception of the great war did not last long after Haig’s death and combinations of literature works, e.g Journey’s end and novels such as All Quiet on the Western Front (although not intentionally being anti-war), sparked a sense of futility. This feeling was also, reinforced after the rise of Nazi Germany in the 1930’s. Also at this time there were historical accounts, including Winston Churchill and Lloyd…

Everything felt like it was going in slow motion once I walked into the doors of the hospital. She looked at me again and asked…

"Mason are you here for therapy?" requested Dr. Stiner, as he casually moved towards Mason, who was in the shadow of building half way into the night. The moon was high in the sky, creating small shadows in which Mason hid. Mason only nodded in response. "Follow me towards the movie theater," uttered Dr. Stiner. He proceeded to jaunt towards the theater with Mason close behind. The way Mason paced himself only made it seem like he was having a struggle keeping up with the doctor. The walk lasted…
