Unknown to most, Coltrane actually knew how to play trumpet and clarinet along with his saxophone. He had a kind heart and was known for his positive outlook on life (Kelley). “Coltrane felt we must all make a conscious effort to effect positive change in the world, and that his music was an instrument to create positive thought patterns in the minds of people” (John Coltrane Biography 1). He wanted the world to be the best place that it could be, so he always tried to help out anyone in anyway possible. He encouraged others to do the same as well. Anyone who knew him, knew just how kind and gentle the soul of John Coltrane was. Coltrane said, “my goal is to live the truly religious life, and express it in my music. On April 21st, 2017, I went to the concert hold by Nocturne- a two years old club in Denver, and the Keith Oxman Quartet did a remarkable concert that night. The Keith Oxman Quartet is a Jazz band lead by Keith Oxman on tenor saxophone, and has Derek Banach on trumpet, Todd Reid on drums, and Jeff Jenkins on organ.
