    The Alchemist Essay In “The Alchemist”, Santiago sets on a journey of self-discovery, in his journey he encounters significant moments and experiences that are important. These moments include his meeting with the King of Salem, Melchizedek that helped Santiago set off on his journey to the pyramids of Egypt, meeting Fatima and teaching him how to love, Santiago’s meeting with the Alchemist, who taught him more about omens and how to read them. The Alchemist finished off his journey of self-discovery and led him down a path of success. Santiago’s meeting with the King of Salem began his journey of self-discovery. While Santiago was reading his book an old man sat next to him and introduced himself as a Melchizedek, the King of Salem. Santiago has never heard of a place called Salem and thinks that the old man is crazy. He thought the old man was part of the Gypsy scam he encountered earlier saying how his treasure is in the pyramids. While Santiago continues to read, Melchizedek begins to write the names of his parents in the sand with a stick that happened to be nearby. Santiago never told the Gypsy the name of his parents. He then gives a chance for the king spek and Melchizedek explains the concept of a Personal Legend. While he explains, the king said “Because you are trying to realize your Personal Legend. And you are at the point where you’re about to give it all up.” This gives Santiago the little push he needed to pursue his own Personal Legend. As a parting gift,…
