Ali Watson is a 32-year-old tall, thin, Caucasian hostess working at Hooters. She was arrested by police on Saturday morning at the Eaton Center Mall. The shop owner called the police and reported that Ali had been acting hysterical. The store owner tried to calm her down, but she had reacted aggressively and was verbally abusive to him. The store owner said, “She came into my store and sampled our colognes. After I sprayed a sample of our Old Spice, Ms. Watson’s behaviour then became out of control. She knocked over some perfumes and began yelling loudly. She scared our customers.” Ali was taken into the police station for processing and questioning. When she was questioned about what happened; she claimed that she does not remember. The police informed her that the store owner is pressing charges against her for the damages to his store. She called her mother to bail her out of jail. Ali’s mother Clarissa was a short middle-aged woman with brown hair covered by a pink scarf. She walked with a tiny limp in her right foot. She asked to speak with the officers that arrested her daughter. Clarissa informed the arresting officers about her daughter’s diagnosis of depression when Ali was a teenager. She said, “Sometimes Ali gets aggressive but that is because of the depression. She never learnt to process her feelings and behaviours in an appropriate way.” The police decided to take Ali to the hospital for a psychiatric examination. The order was granted by the Justice of the…

Moreau and God, these corresponding characteristics are superficial. In order to truly understand the purpose of Wells’s analogy between Dr. Moreau and God, the differences between these two figures must be analyzed. An intangible entity, intention, may be the biggest and most crucial difference relating Dr. Moreau and God. While yes, they both may have intended to create a new species as a way to somehow further “humanity,” Dr. Moreau seems to display an utter indifference towards his…

accustomed to the Beast Folk. Every now and then, though, he 'll notice some abnormal feature in them, and his initial disgust returns. After Prendick found the Leopard Man, a thought came to his mind that after seeing the creature in an animal attitude with its human face distorted with terror, he realized the fact of its humanity. The Contrast Between Animality and Humanity in The Island of Doctor Moreau and Life of Pi One of the major cultural anxieties that prevails in society is the relationship between humans and animals and the distinction between humanity and animality. Humans are often depicted as being a higher form of animal, most commonly induced by religious practices. However, upon isolation or fear of death, the human thought process tends to revert to what is associated to animal-like behaviour. Humans tend…

I swung up and slid gently into my saddle as the worn leather creaked slightly as I situated myself on Buttons my mare. The leather felt cool to the touch and the warm Colorado sun shone out of a clean slate of blue that brought out the comforting smell of horse and leather. I breathed in deeply and caught the piney scent of the sage brush which quickly turned to dust in my nose as the horses in the corral churned up the dry, dusty dirt of the mountains. I rode past the weathered wooden barn…

In the book The Island of Doctor Moreau, there are two different perspectives such as Moreau’s where he is vivisecting and altering animals into human beings just like him as he brings animals into his island to experiment with them. He is trying to alter there brain and body in order for them do what Moreau wants, as he justifies by saying that “pain is evolutionarily unnecessary,” "pleasure and pain have nothing to do with heaven and hell." Moreau assumption toward human nature is in…

H.G. Wells ' The Island of Dr. Moreau beautifully incorporates the notion that "mother" nature, in its natural and native form, has a female tendency while everything invented takes on male characteristics. Women are often related to nature because they are the life bringers. There is nothing more natural or more feminine than the process of childbirth, and nature in general is often considered the paramount maternal figure and we are all her children. Everything else is appropriately defined as…
