@Even though Jean Anouilh has the same plot and characters as the original Antigone, he has written the story for his time with a different meaning. Anouilh’s adaptation does not follow the same fate or religion shown in Sophocles’ version. I will be discussing the differences between these two stories starting with the chorus, the dialogue between characters, and the personalities of the characters themselves. @The first major difference a reader can see right away between Sophocles and Anouilh 's version of Antigone is their different takes on the chorus. Though both use the Chorus as a character who either converses with characters, or makes remarks that go unheard to any character. Either way the Chorus is a major character to both stories,…

ANTIGONE, by Jean Anouilh, is a masterful version of Sophocles’ original tragedy; which delves deeply into the theme of responsibility and duty. Duty is something one is “obligated to do.” Responsibility is described as doing something one “feels is necessary,” as well as “having capacity for moral decisions and therefore accountable” (Webster’s Dictionary). The theme of responsibility and duty transcends the shallow meaning of the words themselves; it illustrates the internal driving force…

born to die young and that’s her fate. Telling everything ahead of time makes the audience lose the element of surprise/life being loss. It makes the audience feel strong emotion toward Antigone from the start. The Chorus in Jean Anouilh's Antigone is very much different from Sophocles’ version. As said the chorus opens the play with a long explanation of background of the characters and the events of the play. In Sophocles’ Antigone, the audience would've known these details. Anouilh seems to…

looked right, and considering Singapore’s year round humidity; if I was going to perspire too much in my clothes. However, when I arrived in New York, getting dressed became a breeze. I noticed that I gravitated towards a standard “uniform” consisting of a T-shirt in white, black, or grey and a pair of jeans. In addition, I also realised that one, people in New York are almost always in black, and two; that no one really cares what you wear, or how you look. My question is what caused this…

The evolution of advertising has changed so much since the 1930’s, where clothing was marketed towards ‘everyday’ people. Looking back at the advertising from then, you can clearly tell they were marketed toward hard workers, busy house wives and active children all in one advertisement. Minimal skin was showing and typically the person in the advertisement was hosting a get together or working hard on the family farm. The most important part of advertisements in that era was about…

the middle of the field and finally someone decided to pass me the ball. I was running so fast looking at the soccer ball from an angle. There is nothing I enjoy more in life than opening the double doors to an Urban Outfitters, Rue 21, or H&M and seeing all the clothes sitting promptly in their display cases waiting to be worn by all. When I finally come across an item that I might be interested in I wait for it to speak to me. It’s as if I am the “Clothes Whisperer”. The item says,…
