The artwork I have chosen to analyze is a wood-fired sculptural piece of pottery. The work is listed as taking the form of a blade, and was crafted by Daniel Johnston. The piece is a part of a curated show entitled Pot Madness, which was on display in Hunt Gallery. Pot Madness showcased a small portion of Bill Potter’s collection of wood-fired pots. Amongst the variety of selective works from our readings, my attention was particularly drawn to the work of Jeff Thomas. The piece titled, “Culture Revolution” left a key interest in where my attention was drawn. The “environmental sculptor”, Andy Goldsworthy, was born in 1956 in England and began his work in the 1970’s (Hurley). He works closely with an environment and uses only the materials available there to create his art. To document his work, he takes photographs before the sculpture is transformed by natural processes such as wind or water. artwork that both have the same medium. The two pieces that stood out to me at Willards Art Center in Idaho Falls Idaho were Elise Wilding's tree painting and Bernadette Regnier's flower painting. Both artists, Wilding and Regnier, use the medium of paint to create their beautiful art. While they both use the same medium in their art, they have do have different styles. Given all the topics brought up in the texts, the idea of the city really stuck out to me. I found the rural and urban contrasts; especially the aspects that make a walker feel free, intriguing. Through closer reading, I realized that although multiple writers hint towards an authoritative entity that prevents walking, few give it a name. The Sarcophagus of Hagia Triada depicts Minoan funerary rites to honour the dead. Sacrifices and gift giving as part of the procession are shown on each of the sides. On one side, the people are presenting the gifts to the dead man himself, standing outside his tomb. The piece has a strong emphasis on line, shape, and colour. Anne Hollander discusses the depiction of cloth by 16th century Italian artists.
