    • The setting of the book took place in Warsaw, Poland, during World War 2. At the time, German soldiers, otherwise known as Jackboots, invaded Warsaw. Being who you were, meant the difference between life and death. The main character of the book is Misha. Before he met Uri, another character, he was called “Stopthief.” It wasn’t really his name but he assumed this because that’s what people called when he ran with loaves of bread. Misha had no family nor friends at the time. He had no place to call home. Misha loved to run. Whenever he stole, it was usually food. His scrawny body made it easier to stay hidden amongst the crowds of people. It also helped with his speed. Soon later, Misha is introduced to a group of orphan “misfits.” These…

Readers can clearly see, that they are some similarities but also some differences. Some similarities that the two excerpts and the poem have in common. There were men attached to them but it was if the boots were wearing the men.” In…

During the book Milkweed, the main parts of the book were when Misha met Uri at the store and when Misha met Janina at her garden. Some other main parts was when Misha met Dr. Korczak and the orphans and when the Jews went to the Ghettos. The author’s purpose for making this story was to reflect on the events that happened in the Holocaust. The main characters, major events, and the theme make up the whole book. Without one of them, Milkweed won’t be as good of a book it is. The main…

In “the guard” it says “The German guard stands at the fence.” this helps show that they are near the wall by saying they see people guarding the…

When her family is forced to move into the ghetto she wanted to sneak out with Misha to steal food but was reckless not caring if she put her and Misha’s lives at risk. “ She swept a large coffee can from a shelf. It crashed to the floor. I balled my fist in front of her face. “ Stop it. They’re going to hear””(125). Later on in the book her mother dies from the harsh conditions and…

the front of the crowd. ‘Good day, little Gypsy,’ he said...” This piece of evidence shows Misha interacting with the Nazi. When you interact with your parents, you usually give them a hug right? Well, one of the kinder Nazi soldiers pinch his cheek and talk with Misha, then to pick him up off the road and back onto the sidewalk. Another difference from the other two sources, is that Misha actually likes the Nazi and thinks they are good. My evidence to prove this is, “ After a while Uri found…

Have you ever read a book about the holocaust. If not and you want to read one I would suggest Milkweed by Jerry Spinelli. The book starts off with the main character Misha stealing a loaf of bread and then meets Uri who acts as his guardian for the first half of the book. Misha recalls nothing of his past, but accepts a past made up by Uri, until he is accepted into a new family with Janina, his “sister”, and accepts being a jew instead of a gypsy. Misha is put into a ghetto by the jackboots,…
