Gamma ray bursts (GRBs) are beams of energy in the form of gamma rays that are beamed out of the poles of a collapsing star, these are formed from very intense explosions in distant galaxies. GRBs are the brightest known electromagnetic events in the universe. They can last just a few milliseconds, or hours. The burst is often followed by an afterglow, which is emitted at longer wavelengths. We have been able to learn a lot of what we know about GRBs from afterglow. We can measure how far away…
heat. Absolute Zero will occur when every atomic and molecular movement ceases and is at the lowest temperature possible. Absolute Zero on the scale is 0 degrees Kelvin, -237.15 degrees Celsius, or at -460 degrees Fahrenheit. All objects emit thermal energy or heat unless they have a temperature of Absolute Zero (Measuring Temperature, n.d.) Heat is the quality of being hot, Heat is occasionally known as a process…
Jackson Reynolds had not always been a bad man, but after some considerable personal effort he most certainly had become one. Jackson was an imposing figure standing six feet two inches tall, topped with coal black straight rather slightly too long hair. His skin seemed perpetually tan and gave him somewhat of a Mediterranean look with his ice blue eyes. The kind of eyes that you couldn’t help but stare into, but the kind of eyes that sent a chill up your spine if you looked too long. This…
Temperatures have a great effect on microorganisms. In the most general sense, bacteria can grow at any temperature between freezing point of water (32°C) and the point where proteins coagulate. Between these two high and low temperatures, each bacteria type has an optimum growth temperature. An optimal growth temperature is the point at which an organism grows best, with optimal cell metabolism. If temperatures creep past the maximum, bacteria are killed. If the temperature drops below the…
To create a structured story, Silpperjack used the weather to portray the time of day relevant to the story. To begin with, in Coal Oil, Crayons and Schoolbooks Silpperjack expresses the weather at the beginning of the day to have the following characteristics, “…cold, damp air.. white mist all around me.” (Slipperjack 27). When one awakes in the morning, the air does feel denser and colder. Slipperjack illustrates the weather in such to generate a morning feel because it is the beginning of…
the energy content of food and chemicals. A substance inside of the Bomb Calorimetry goes through a combustion reactions which take place inside of a closed stainless-steel container surrounded by water. In this experiment, benzoic acid and Tollhouse chocolate chips will release energy through a combustion reaction inside of the stainless-steel container. The combustion reaction that occurs will cause the water surrounding the system to increase. To determine the combustion reaction’s energy…
A drive or motivator is a force or reason that compels one to do something. Thus, for a motivator to be effective there must be a cause and effect chain reaction that will impact the decision taken. Being a nurse, I always have to be on my feet and help anyone who enters the hospital, as their lives rest on us. A main motivator that impacts my performance at work is the willingness to have empathy and compassion towards the patients in a way with the goal of restoring or improving their health…
During the four week fitness log I was able to achieve most of my goals. The first goal I achieved was being able to lift 115 lbs on the leg extension. I accomplished this goal within the first two weeks. By the end of week three, I slowly made my way to 10 reps of 115 lbs constantly. I believe that doing squats, wall-sit, and other leg workouts increased my ability to achieve the goal. I was unable to achieve my second goal because I set my standards too high. I was only able to run 3-6 minutes…
From what I have seen from my nutrient intake report, I definitely need to make major improvements in some areas of my diet. For starters, I missed the minimum calorie requirement for one week by over two-hundred and fifty calories. This is a major aspect of my diet that I want to change, because if I don’t feed my body with calories, vitamins, and minerals, I will not be able to increase my performance on the football field by any significant amount. If I want to increase my performance on the…
