“I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet” (“Acquainted”) proves that he is by himself during his walk. The narrator is saying that when he stops moving, he cannot hear anyone else because he is alone. This is another thing that shows us his seclusion. “While others stay home, snug in their beds, the speaker walks out beyond the streetlights into the darkness. He is engulfed by it. The suggestion is that in this time and place he confronts the unanswered questions, his own littleness, and his detachment from others” (Monahan). When he says he has stopped the sound of feet, he is trying to have us envision the man and how alone he actually is. “I have been one acquainted with the night” (“Acquainted”) is an important line in this poem. “The word, “acquainted” describes the speaker’s connection to “night”. In the setting of this poem, night is the time during which the speaker heads out of town alone. For the speaker, night is a period of feeling total isolation and detachment of social groups” (Monahan). This line is important because it has the title of the poem in it and gives the readers’ assurance to what the poem is actually about. “Acquainted with the Night” by Robert Frost expresses depression, loneliness, as well as…

The overall thesis of my initial reflection on love was basically that I despise the ways society has twisted the meaning of love, but have encountered some moments similar to love in my life, albeit not being closely acquainted with it. Reading The Symposium, Consolation of Philosophy, and The Reasons of Love has not provided me with a clear explanation as to what love truly is, but has provided me with multiple interpretations for further pondering. The Symposium was my favorite of the…

Hawthorne’s ambiguity results in many interpretations of the moral told in this short story. My interpretation, based off of Brown’s loss of innocence, is that regardless of how pious one is perceived to be, innocence is fragile, and the truth is like fire against the silk veil of illusion that innocence is. Brown experiences this after seeing Cloyse reveal her true colors in the woods that dark night, followed by the Deacon, and later the rest of Salem. The innocent, naïve Goodman described in…

Much like people in today's world Robert Frost struggled to fit into society and cope with his struggles in a sane way. If you were to look at all of his accomplishments and awards you wouldn’t think he was depressed but critics and his poems prove otherwise. As you read any of Frost’s poems even his famous ones, they will show his mental struggles or life struggles. In his poem Acquainted with the night Frost writes “I have walked down the saddest city lane” (Frost). Frost had many struggles in…

who is personally acquainted with selected J.F.K successors, provides an authoritative perspective that validates this theory. In his book, The Man Who Killed Kennedy: The Case Against LBJ (2014), Stone alleges Johnson as the mastermind plotting the assassination, motivated by the fear that Kennedy was going to close the Vice President’s political career by dropping him from the ticket in 1964. Jacqueline Kennedy, widow of President Kennedy, is a proponent of this theory, opining that with a…

Good stories leave room for interpretation within their woven plots and characters; Good writers allow for these interpretations flourish and reveal themselves to the audience. Just like in our own lives, stories aren’t always so cut and dry. There are ideas and situations that are both morally and factually gray, things we aren’t so sure about one way or the other. One particular author who hones in on looking at the lines between good and evil is Nathaniel Hawthorne. Hawthorne uses very…

apple-picking now. Essence of winter sleep is on the night, The scent of apples: I am drowsing off,” in this he is saying that winter will come quicker than you think and the fresh scent of apples will only be a memory to most. This is a great metaphor that Frost says, he says it in such a way that doesn't make you not want winter to come, but in a way that says to enjoy how things are now because they will not be the same for long. Another common theme of Frost’s poems is isolation. Isolation…

It stressed many values such as the creative mind of the individual, the importance of nature, the limits of tradition, originality and child-like curiosity. Nathaniel Hawthorne and Edgar Allan Poe were two of the most well-known writers within this literary period. Both of them placed high emphasis on the imagination in their work. a sense of empathy towards Sedaris because it is probable that they, too, have been in a compromising situation which ultimately tore all their hopes and aspirations down. This is significant because it creates a greater connection between the audience and author, which allows for the piece to be more successful in achieving its purpose. Similarly, the descriptions in my narrative about my third-grade learning environment allow for the audience to be transported to their childhood classrooms and…

The dream felt generally natural, and my thoughts and feelings in the dream felt realistic to how I would approach things in real life to a certain extent. The date of the concert on the floor relates to information that I read the night before, in which 5 Seconds of Summer was going to be having a concert in the Philippines. The concern over homework was also paralleled to real life as that is one thing I and my friends always have a common stress over. The dream made me very aware of my…
