It was an effort to educate the people on what was truly going on “behind closed doors” with real life depictions and examples of what happens to these slaves. In this piece Lydia analyzes slavery, the treatment on the people and how it affects the nation both in the past and during the contemporary times. She truly like to analyze what people believe slavery is and what happens to what actually is occurring. One of the most controversial parts of this piece is when she talks about the “system”, in terms of the federal and state laws, and how even though these laws exist there really isn’t anything coming from them.
