Character Essay Beatrice is the cousin of Hero, the niece of Leonato, and the love interest of Benedick in the play Much Ado About Nothing. She is portrayed as if she is the protective older sister who can't seem to find love herself. When she is first introduced in the play, she insults Benedick, her love interest, and she doesn’t realize that she is in love with him until her cousins trick her into believing that he loves her. Beatrice exhibits the traits of having strong family values, being secretly romantic, and being quick witted but gullible. Beatrice shows that she has strong family values throughout the play. She especially shows it when Hero is wrongfully accused of being a cheater, and she defends her cousin(Shakespeare 4.1.152-58). She also shows her strong family values when she asks Benedick to kill Claudio because she thought that he had lied about her cousin(Shakespeare 4.1.314-38). Beatrice was the only person who believed her cousin’s innocence. This trait made it possible for the story to have a happy ending. Without it, Hero would have never cleared her name, and Leonato probably would have killed Hero.…

To be Mad or Not to be Mad? That is the Question. Have you ever thought of yourself as a tragic hero? A tragic hero a great character in a dramatic tragedy who is destined for defeat. “ According to the critic, a tragic hero has three prominent characteristics: (1) a will-power that surpasses that of average people, (2) an exceptionally intense power of feel- ing, and (3) and unusually high level of intelli- gence.”(George Detmold 219) With being a tragic hero, come a tragic flaw. could he possibly know what my mom would’ve thought? I glanced at Marcia, sizing her up. She seemed gullible, easy to pick on. Without thinking beforehand, I muttered out “oxygen thief” paired with a lovely eye roll. She glanced at Jim, her eyes saying “where have you gone wrong.” In retrospect, I probably shouldn’t have told her that, but nothing mattered anymore. Still, Jim’s next statement shattered my heart. “Raven. Honestly, what was wrong with your mother. She’s obviously responsible for…

Death of socialization There is a common saying that children do have the right to socialize, but the most important question is do they actually get that opportunity? Well, I was beaten and denied of my childhood socialization. I was about ten (10) years old when my social isolation began. There were many rules and regulations implemented in my father 's house, most of them were targeting my freedom of socialization, but the most outstanding one was "Don’t socialize with other people,…

Everyone’s got a mom, right? Whether you’re adopted, or have two parents of the same gender, or in whatever situation, everyone has a mom. But does everyone have a mother? I think there’s a difference. Your mom is the woman who helped create you – biologically of course. But your mother is the person who helped shape you into being. She taught you right from wrong, showed you the kind of parent you’d want to be (or maybe the kind you didn’t want to be), and helped you when you were upset. I’m…

My mom found out that my dad was having an affair. He never said so, but it became clear that it had been going on for some time already. It was with a woman at his work, so he could see her freely without any suspicion from us. My mom kicked him out of the house, and he came and went for a while. He would visit us once in a while, but…

Peyton stood in the elevator. They were all stuffed. Crowed with security guards, full with suited administrators clutching clipboards, carrying manila folders and cold expressions. The university president’s secretary stood at the front of everyone, her tight brown curls like a helmet ready for war. One of the security guards, Frank, took Peyton’s computer from her hands as they entered and placed it in a brown box. The saccharine scent of cheap perfume permeated the enclosed metal box and…

Where is my heart? I couldn’t help but feel small while resting in the clouds. Depositing all my trust in the machinery I sat in made my stomach sink, and I couldn’t help but feel the slightest bit nervous. Then it appeared, the country I had no idea I would fall in love with eight days later. Port-au –Prince, Haiti laid directly below me; complete destruction enveloped my vision. Four years earlier, following the earthquake that devastated Haiti, seeing it remain in ruins, made my heart sink.…
