    Torture: A Short Story

rapidly. It's totally a killer's moment-it's silent except for the heavy breathing coming from his victim. That is, until my stomach growls like a fucking whale. Both heads snap in my direction and I freeze. Really? You chose now to be fucking hungry? My inner voice yells. "ALEXANDRA! MY BEAUTY, PLEASE HELP ME!" Jericho's shrilling voice bellows. His voice jolts me because of the loudness. His face frightens me because of how desperate his one working eye is. "I don't-" "Shut the fuck up, Jericho." Desmond cuts me off and points his knife at Jericho. Jericho doesn't listen and I know it's because his survival instincts are kicking in overdrive. "NO! I'M SORRY FOR HURTING YOU PLEA- AUGH!" His voice is cut off when Desmond suddenly plunges the knife into his throat. Jericho twitches as the last of his blood trails down his body and drips to the floor. Once his head lolls forward from death, Desmond looks at me. His eyes are no longer the ones I can't recognize, but they're clearly tormented. I glance around me and realize that Garett's no longer behind me. Probably the wisest choice for him at the moment. At first I expect him to start yelling at me, glare at me, lecture me, or anything like him. But his expressions slowly softens into blankness. "What do you want?" He asks. Though the words sound curt, his tone remains neutral. "I wanted to talk. You've been avoiding me and I can understand why, but-" He waves me off as if to say "hold on" and walks out of the cell,…

rather i’m doing something right, or doing something wrong. Your mentor should be someone you can count on, or someone who has helped you a lot throughout your life. Someone who is positive, and someone who is helpful. You should be able to work with and accept the advice your mentor give you. I’ve learned throughout the years so many things from the advice of Mrs. Williams. Mrs. Williams taught me how to better myself and step up and be a bigger person. She also taught me how to make my own…

Do you ever sit in class and have no idea what’s going on? Well, that’s me right now. I’m sitting in chemistry listening to descriptions chemical reactions. Why am I even sitting here trying to make sense of a subject that has no practical relevance to our lives whatsoever? Realistically, out of all senior chemistry students, who will actually use chemical principles on a daily basis? Most of us haven’t chosen a career pathway yet. The un-deciders, like me, hopelessly put effort in getting…

She pierced her lips into a straight line and put his paper in the curve pile of papers. "He's actually been improving if you asked me. If you even cared to look at the monitored homework, you would see as well." He bit his lip and placed a hand over her pen. "Feisty I like it." Diamond roughly snatched her hand from his and flashed her 15 carrot ring. He licked his lips and glared at the glistening moon through her window. "Hey babygirl." A voice boomed through the now quiet classroom. She…

well-dressed man approaching, possibly thirty or so years old, with solid black well maintained hair, and a wide mouth from which he spoke again. "Who might you be?" the rim. “Do you realize how many people are here? There are people here that I’ve never even talked to before, how did they all get in?” she continues, practically yelling in my ear. “Well you know Jay, all he cares about is his party reputation. He’s lucky that he can play football, if not he’d be kicked out of school in a heartbeat.” I roll my eyes. Jay is one of those guys who is just looking to get in trouble. He likes to be the…

The instant greeting I received made me feel at ease and made me feel less as a stranger. As I came inside the main entrance I noticed the church was very large and well maintained. I was then welcomed again by other servers who then seated me and asked what my was name. I introduced myself and they told me to enjoy the service. I looked around the church and noticed that most of the interior was simple and nothing extravagant. The inside was well lit and had air conditioning. One thing that…

Have you ever been forced into something that you absolutely would have never done if you didn’t have to? This fear became my reality last Sunday. “Morning, Mike,” the chief said. “I want to remind you that discretion is essential under the circumstances. Otherwise, this ghost thing could turn into a real media freak show.” “You got it, Chief,” Dad agreed. “Our conversation is strictly off the record.” He was a reporter for the Covert Times and a wannabe TV sports anchor with a stack of applications to prove it. “Thanks.” Chizelmen’s SUV squealed around a corner. “Were you at Willaston last night, Madison?” “Yes,” I said.…
