Stem Cell research (Medical Ethicist) As a medical ethicist there is a giant controversy on whether to use Embryonic Stem Cells because many believe that using embryonic cells is killing a baby before it is fully developed. The way they get these embryonic cells is after 4 days of the embryo growing it turns into a blastocyst which is a hollow ball of cells with cells inside of that and it is called the inner cell mass. Those are the cells that turn into the embryo and they have already started to specialize. The cells in the inner cell mass are the cells scientist want to turn them into different cells and these are known as pluripotent, so that is why it is thought of as killing a baby before it has a chance. (Biology book 294) So, how are…

Embryonic Stem Cell Research (ESCR) for the treatment of disease is fraught with ethical issues. As embryos are destroyed in the name of said research, many people view the use of embryonic stem cells as the destruction of human life; religious groups such as Buddhists, Hindus and Catholics were questioned via face to face interviews, the data gathered from these interviews showed three major concerns, namely: the sanctity of human life, do no harm, and, what research the stem cells were being…

Stem Cell Research Stem cells have been a factor in the scientific world since the 1800 when scientists figured out all living organisms are made up of cells; and some cells have the potential to create other cells, yet many people are still misinformed on the uses and great potential that stem cells posses. Most people who are against stem cells are not in favor of them because of the old extraction processes used but gladly science has found a new, more humane way to do so. Stem Cells can be…

Stem-cell Therapy is the use of stem cells, which are undifferentiated cells that can differentiate into any specialised cell, to either treat or prevent a disease. There are two main types of stem cells, embryonic stem cells extracted from the early blastocyst phase in embryonic development and adult stem cells found in the bone marrow. The difference between these two is their totipotency or ability to become a new cell; embryonic stem cells can develop into any type of cell, they are…

timeline of stem cell research, scientists have learned about the different types of stem cells and their functions while trying to avoid ethical and funding issues that arise as obstacles. Studies on human stem cells allow scientists to attempt to create cures for diseases like Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, and myocardial infarction while also better understanding the development and differentiation of human cells (Lo and Parham). Differentiation is the process of unspecialized cells changing…
