Important works were, among others, those of the Brontë sisters: ‘Jane Eyre’ By Charlotte Brontë in 1847, and ‘Wuthering Hights’ By Emily Brontë in 1847. Charles Dickens is probably the most famous novelist from this time, with works such as ‘Oliver Twist’, and ‘A Christmas Carol’. Famous Poets were Robert Browning and Alfred Tennyson. The Victorian was important for science, scientists wanted to describe and classify all of the world. The most famous work that came from this is Charles Darwin’s ‘On the Origin of Species’. It was in this period the theory of evolution was first described. This period was an important time for the British empire which, at the end of the Victorian period, covered one fifth of the world. In this time a lot of citizens who did not have the right before, now had the right to vote.
