On August 29, 2005 Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast of the US. It was a category 3 storm and caused more than $100 billion worth of damage. The storm started in the Bahamas on August 23, 2005 and eventually came to the US. The coast guard had to rescue more than 34,000 people.
