For anybody who has considered themselves a musician, songwriter or artist of any kind usually has a source of inspiration. Be it a favorite band or solo artist, to which it gives them their own ideas, motivation and personal sense of style. One musician who has particularly influenced me is the artist David Bowie/Ziggy Stardust. His career spanned several decades in which he like his fellow musician “Bob Dylan” was not constrained by the music that he made and has reinvented himself, his musical style and appearance several times. The diversity of his career is a combination of various genres of music (i.e. Folk, Rock, American Soul, Electronic, Blues and Glam). David Bowie has gained many fans and respect from his peers with an impressive discography. The most iconic and influential part of David Bowies career was from the 1972 seminal concept album “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars”. This is the point when Bowie radically changed the world with his music and talent, turning what was supposed to be just another good “Pop Album” into a personification of self-parody and style with a British idea of fringe New York Music including the likes of “The Velvet Underground”. This single moment in time propelled his overall status by single handedly bringing forward the age of “Glam Rock” with his now iconic outrageous fashion, music and flamboyant behavior. Which in turn gave both British and American bands/artists the blueprints such as The Sweet,…

If the world tells you that racism is acceptable and that it is okay to discriminate against genders or races and you think different- you believe it is not permitted to discriminate- that is your conscience. Even though the majority may say it is all hunky-dory, you can be that person that disagrees. That is what Lee means when she says “the one thing that doesn’t abide by majority rule is a person’s conscience” (Lee), that your conscience doesn’t always agree with what other people…

David Bowie was an androgynous musician who had several songs that had deep symbolism. For example his song “Life on Mars” which was released in 1971 along with the Hunky Dory Album, but it took off when he embraced his Ziggy Stardust persona. The song is dedicated to an era of rebellion against materialism and escapism through entertainment such as movies and shows. Most of all, the song is dedicated to a time in which media was focused on all of the violence and acts of resistance. The…

For the past 17 years my “father” has terrorized me without lifting a finger. He has yelled, threatened, and thrown various items at me and my mom. Every day when I go to school my peers do not see any physical bruises or scars, so they believe everything is hunky-dory, but what they do not see is the mental fatigue that I endure at home and the stress it takes to pretend like nothing is wrong. It is hard enough to struggle with the pain of living with my “father,” but it is even tougher to…
