similar. I believe that people should be able to wear whatever they want. I agree with the viewpoint of this article because in America we should have the freedom to do as we please, and taking away the right to wear what we want is a violation of that right. This article made me think about the struggles that gays and lesbians go through and how ridiculous it can be. The second article by Daniela Costa on April 14, 2015 details the various ways that Canadian lesbians are different from American ones. Costa uses language such as “we” which implies she is a lesbian. The article explains ten ways in which Canadian lesbians are a “unique entity.” The ten reasons are as follows: “1. We lez it up in English and French. 2. We grabbed the gay agenda by the horns by electing a lesbian premier. 3. We produce queer ladies in proportion to the size of their home provinces. 4. We, as in generations of us, grew up thinking our favorite national literary characters were bosom friends of the most literal kind. 5. We loved Elisha Cuthbert before she played a funny gay gal. 6. We get to watch new Degrassi episodes first and it sucks not to be able to talk about it. 7. We have no shame when it comes to our marketing efforts. 8. We win the KD Battle. 9. We thought one gay Quin sister wasn’t enough, so we gave the world two. 10. We reward a good gay.” The author’s reality seems to be that Canadian lesbians are better than American ones, which is true in the aspect of progression, but I don’t…
era when being confidently gay and black had violent consequences, it was important that at-risk individuals had a place to be comfortable and expressive. Paris Is Burning, directed by Jennifer Livingston, shed a necessary light on the subculture of the house system and the ball circuit in 1980’s New York City. Because of the socioeconomic and political culture surrounding the Reagan Administration, there was high demand for asylum for LGBT individuals, thus creating the house system. This house…
An example of this precision is the sentence from "A Rose for Emily" discussed in Alice Hall Petry's article: "Thus she passed from generation to generation - dear, inescapable, impervious, tranquil, and perverse"(280). In this sentence Faulkner summarizes Emily Grierson's character and her relationship with her community in five adjectives. While probably overlooked by the casual reader, Petry explores how closer examination reveals Faulkner's organization and manipulation of language. Placed…
KEY 3: The Agenda For each meeting, you need to decide who the most critical people are who need to be there. Without an agenda, you can’t possibly know who should be at the meeting. Consequently, an effective meeting starts with the agenda. Before the meeting decide: what you want to cover, what order you will present each agenda item, and how many minutes you will spend on each one. Get good at letting people know they don’t always have to attend every meeting. You don’t need your lab…
At the time, I had little idea of the significance of it. Ordinance #160713, was introduced with the purpose of amending the Philadelphia Code to “provide that building service employees performing labor under certain building service contracts, receive the prevailing wage and prevailing working conditions.” (Philadelphia City Council "Oct. 6, 2016 Meeting Agenda") The large crowd of union workers and others supporters broke out in cheers and applause upon the bill’s approval. Upon researching…
In 2008 Mark Steyn was on The Agenda with Steve Paikin, to speak about his book “America Alone” and the claims of his Islamophobia. Also on the show were three law students from Osgoode Law who came on the show to argue against the claims made about Islam in Steyn’s book and an excerpt published in Maclean’s magazine. The law students argue that Maclean’s should, either by their own will or by force, publish another article on the subject but with a counter opinion to Steyn’s. In this particular…
The reason I say this is because the lady member feels she can not complete the work because of what’s going on in her personal life. She constantly disrupts and feels the agenda is a joke because the task seems unrealistic. Another person that is playing the dysfunctional role is the older male member because he is constantly rushing the meeting so he could leave and go elsewhere. He was also pushing roles on people when they felt unsure of their task. When it comes to task roles, Joe is the…
Sometimes the best leaders are the ones that sit back and listen to the employees. Obviously you have to make sure the alignment of the meeting is covering your expectations and that you have to make sure your attitude and behaviors towards each employee fits to their needs to have an effective meeting but other than that you can let the other employees really have a say on the agenda. At first I thought this virtual leader was going to be a lot of me telling the employees what to do and how to…
we have agreed to create poll decisions on Facebook group so everyone could choose their available times. After various polls and discussions, we got to select a suitable meeting time to include all members’ participation. It was a good experience trying to use poll decision for meeting times, as it was fast and efficient. I would definitely adopt poll decisions in Facebook for deciding meeting times in a big sized group work in the future. An aspect that I realised which could be improved, was…
The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. The first order of business was the approval of the Agenda. Mr. Kirkland made a motion to accept the Agenda as written. Ms. Demers seconded, motion carried. The next item was the approval of the Minutes from the September 13th Annual Membership Meeting. Mr. Mack made a motion to approve the Minutes as written. Ms. Demers seconded, motion carried. Next on the Agenda was the Audited Financial Report. Ms. Olejnik and Ms. Stefanski…
