My third quarter reading goal was to read 2 poetic novels. I met my goal by trying my best to read at least 50 pages each week. The two books I read were Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse and I Promised I Would Tell by Sonia Schreiber Weitz. While completing this reading goal I had to change the amount of time I spend reading each week. I on average read around an hour per week, but this reading goal help me have more of a reason to read then just reading for fun. I usually get distracted when I am…
The first new thing I learned from this article was that Ritalin and Cocaine are extremely similar. Second being the main reason why Ritalin is not highly addictive is because you swallow it in pill form which makes it you absorb it slower; causing you not to get an instant high like you would with cocaine. The third is that there are around six million children in the United States currently prescribed Ritalin. The fourth being that a significant portion of the prescriptions were not actually…
I watch as my friends joke around, laughing with one another. Instead of joining them, I head home, where a stack of work awaits me. It is not that I prefer to stay home, or that I am anti social, but focusing on academics is what I do. It has become part of my curious identity that not only I acknowledge, but so do my friends and family. Often I am the one labeled as nerdy by my peers, I understand they mean no harm in it, it is more of a compliment than anything. I spend most of my day…
Just like a box of chocolates, life is full of surprises. Becoming a member of the Oklahoma FFA Organization has been one of the biggest and best boxes of chocolate I have opened in my entire life. As an 8th Grader, when I opened my first box of FFA chocolates, I had basic expectations for becoming an FFA member. I knew I would be getting a sweet surprise by joining the FFA but I had no idea I would be supplied with all the “fixin’s”. Throughout my FFA career I have encountered these…

So, how can students decrease the amount of stress they receive from homework and gain more free time? Many jump to the conclusion that abolishing homework is the correct solution to the issue. However, homework is far more useful and effective than many may think.…

Homework is probably the biggest reason why students shouldn’t have to do community service to graduate. Depending on the teacher they may assign a lot of homework…
relation. Almost all elementary to high school students will likely to agree that homework should not be assigned. The majority of students complain about homework yet teachers don’t usually understand why. While homework gives some benefits to students, unnecessary homework should not be assigned due to the fact that there are enough school hours, it consumes time, and the development of poor health is encouraged. “Homework has been a part of students’ lives for so long that the idea of not…
