After he landed the Spaniards began their conquest on the island. Some groups like the Ciboney and the Taino lived on the island but they were either killed by the Spaniards or died from the disease they brought. So their effect on the Cuban culture was small, and the Spanish culture, language, and religion lasted. The basis of the economy was mainly agriculture so that was what people did.
