A murderer is someone who is narcissistic, often mentally ill and selfish. They have no compassion and don’t feel anything most of the time. That’s definitely the case for Larry Bittaker and Roy Norris also known as the “Toolbox Killers” as well as Ian Brady and Myra Hindley also known as the “Moors Murderers.” Lawrence “Larry” Bittaker was born in Pittsburgh, PA and was adopted as a baby. Because of his adopted fathers job, he was forced to move from place to place before they finally settled in California. Bittaker was really smart but he dropped out when he was 17 and was arrested multiple times for small crimes such as theft, resisting arrest and a hit and run. After he was released from serving one sentence, the FBI arrested him for violating the IMVTA (Interstate Motor Vehicle Theft Act) and had to then serve 18 months in prison in Oklahoma. After serving 6 months he was released and in 1961 he had a psychiatric evaluation and it was determined that he was paranoid and borderline psychotic. Roy Norris on the other hand was born in Colorado and joined the Navy when he was 17 and spent most of his time in California. He was discharged from the Navy when he got arrested for attempted rape as well as having “psychological problems” and “severe schizoid personality.” He was also put in a psychiatric institution for five years after almost beating a lady to death with a rock. After his “sentence” was finished, they said he was no longer a harm to people but 3 months after…

But in her meekness and her subservience to her husband - as Helen puts it, in her “patient endurance of evil” (379) - Millicent fails…

would have married him” (127). When Helen does decide to run away from Arthur, it is not because of their failed relationship, but because of the influence Arthur has on her son. Arthur has always been jealous of her son. Ironically, Helen even named her son after him, but that didn’t help. Arthur tried to teach her son how to drink and act like a man, when really, he was only corrupting him. It can be argued that Helen was only damaging her son by removing the paternal influence from her son’s…
