After his father’s death he left college with the degree. When he left college and went and joined the Spanish army with his friend, but hey didn't enter any combat situations. He returned home and met a girl by the name of Emily Sarah Sellwood in 1850. When he lost his inheritance on a bad investment in 1840, Sellwood’s parents called off the engagement. Many years later he married her and move to Twickenham, near London. Then three years later he moved to Farrington near Freshwater. Tennyson died on October 6, 1892 and he died at he Aldworth House, Haslemere, Surrey. His father died in 1851. The Painting is of people doing whatever they have to do to survive even if they have to kill someone’s daughter. So what it is really showing is how inhumane some people are and they only fear for their live, not caring about the lives of others. The scene is of Iphigenia atop the altar with the priest holding a knife and her father to the left. The many spectators and some warriors standing all around watching, yet doing nothing. Her father is turning to look away from the scene as an angel and a deer come in on a cloud trying to save her. Her father is wearing the clothes of a peasant yet he is a nobleman and a soldier.
