The Haber process In modern society mankind relies on industrial chemistry processes. This industrial chemistry process is known as “The Haber Process” it is responsible for the production of the compound ammonia; which is accountable for the world’s consumption of natural gas (BBC, 2014). The Haber process is the method of synthesizing the compound of ammonia which is produced from Hydrogen (H2) and Nitrogen (N2) gas (Sinha, 2014). In 1909 a German named Fritz Haber developed the compound of ammonia, thus The “Haber” process was named after the physical chemist (AUS-e-TUTE, 2014). In 1918 Fritz Haber received the Nobel Prize for this method; in turn the manufacturing of ammonia became economically possible (May, 1999). The Haber process…

simulating an ammonia production by reacting nitrogen and hydrogen in a reaction called Haber process. Haber process is a very economic exothermic reaction to produce ammonia by reacting nitrogen and hydrogen using a metal catalyst in high pressure and temperature. Nitrogen was obtained from the air and therefore, some argon would be included in this simulation. On the other hand, hydrogen was obtained from the cracking of petroleum. The simulation process started where the feed (mass flow rate…

For example, the reaction can not occur without a catalyst. This reaction catalyzes in a process known as the Haber Process. One can see the Haber Process at work in Figure 1. In Figure 1, one can see that elemental nitrogen from the air and elemental hydrogen from natural gas are combining and propagated through a tube at a mole ratio of 1 mole of nitrogen to 3 moles of hydrogen. The two gases reach a chamber and are heated to 450 degrees centigrade, subjected to a pressure of 200 atm, and…

Known for the method used in industry to synthesize ammonia from nitrogen and hydrogen gases, Fritz Haber was, and still is, a well-known German chemist whose invention is used today for the production of fertilizers, cleaning products, and explosives. He was born on December 9, 1868, in Breslau, Prussia. Three weeks after being born, his mother passed away due to the toll her pregnancy took on her, thus leaving him to be raised in a Jewish household by his father, Siegfried, and several of his…

The FTIR spectra of four phosphazenium salts and P5+ are shown in Figure S1. Four phosphazenium salts have characteristic absorptions at 2850 and 2930 cm-1, belonging to the stretching vibration of -CH2- and -CH-, respectively, and this peak in the P5+ represents the absorption of –CH3. All the five compounds exhibit absorption at 960, 1230, and 1442 cm-1 corresponding to the stretching vibrations of P–N. In the FTIR spectrum of Cy4P1+BF4-, the peaks at 1633 and 3432 cm-1 belong to water because…

Unfortunately, some things and most things can have good and bad uses. Fritz Haber was born on December 9th, 1868. He was the son of a Jewish merchant in a small town. He had all ways longed for a better…

Fritz Haber was a German chemist who won the Nobel Prize in 1918 for "improving the standards of agriculture and the well-being of mankind". Yet the same process that landed him the highest honor for saving many lives ended up taking just as many away. He threw himself into the World War I by making bombs out of the love of his country. In the Radiolab Podcast about Haber and "What's Eating America" by Michael Pollard talks about how hard it is to place Haber under the category of good or evil.…

Hi Mr. Gural, I am not sure what the source of the break down in communications has been between the IB Program and Jonathan’s parents. Here is the timeline we followed in developing Johnathan’s course selections. We(you, your wife and Jonathan) meet in the 10th grade to develop his 2 year plan. Even at that meeting, my form indicates that he needed to attend summer school to take Economics to clear a space in his senior schedule. Even with that it would have been tight, 15 spaces with 3…

Starting this semester, I was feeling excited to know how counseling groups work and what kind of groups there are in diverse fields. Also, I was enthusiastic to be in a process group with my classmates that I spent the last semester with. Last time I had process group, was with students from different cohorts that I did not have any connection. This semester, being in a process group with classmates of my same clinical group was a great and unique experience. At the beginning of this class, I…
