Mount Rushmore was sculptured by Gutzon Borglum and his son. This project took about 14 years as it started at 1927 and ended by 1941. It is about 18-meter long. It represents the faces of four American presidents. Each president had to be carved from head to waist, but they didn’t due to lack in funding. About 400 workers were helping Gutzon and his son to sculpture this mount, and they removed about 450,000 tons of rocks to create these four faces. They settled on Mount Rushmore that the most important advantage of it facing southeast for maximum sun exposure. The idea of carving of these famous people was to encourage tourism in this region.
