    brown stain at the bottom that adds to the sad state of the sweatshirt. The dull yellow is a bit depressing. I pull my shoes on and tie them loosely. I yawn as I make my way through the rows of cots to the far side of the gym where a table stands. This is where they serve our meals, and this is where they serve morning snacks for those who are up early enough. The troopers sit behind it near a radio, there is no news now so there is no need to use it. I grab some type of granola bar, nod to them and head to the double doors. Hopefully my exit won’t wake anyone. Sure enough the door squeaks, but I don’t see anyone stir, so I go. The area around here is in ruin. Trees are down everywhere you look too much water has created streams from the streets. There are a few other people scattered around, several are crying. I want to tell them it’s a waste of water, that there is too much around here as it is. It’s a little insensitive though. And I don’t really want to talk right now. I forgot to grab my toothbrush so the granola bar tastes a bit like death. That’s one thing I took for granted. Brushing your teeth is kind of like a constant in your life, you do it twice a day, three if you’re really good, and you don’t really think about it. But here there isn’t enough toothpaste, the water doesn’t always run clean and it’s hard to keep constant when everything around you has changed.
