    Knowledge is a major factor that the government depends on the society to lack. When the country decides to finally open their eyes to the charade that the government is putting on. Enlightenment is why Lauryn Hill wrote this song. She wanted to open the eyes of the public to the ways of the government. Society will often times believe the what the media says when the majority of what is advertised on the news are lies. This iniquity that is hidden within the government will continue until people come together to dismantle it. Not only did the song effect the society it also played a role in other songwriters music. Songwriters would be inspired to speak the truth through their music. Lauryn Hill goes against what the normal writing style and speaks truth. Songs as these are usually rarely played on the radio because of the raw truth that it speaks. Inspiration is given to many artist to speak the truth and to disregard the normal expectations of musicians. One artist in particular took exceptional interest into the song and decided to sample it into one of their own. The artist is no other than Kanye West. In his song “All Falls Down” Kanye West samples the same words that are in his title. In this song Kanye West raps about consumerism and vanity.
