    't stop her from acquiring as much information as possible. As Vega began to grow in the religion, she learned the ways and patakís of Santería from her godparents. Vega 's godparents served as a source of nourishment for Vega, teaching her and exposing her to the wonderful religion of Santería. The nourishing nature of Vega 's godparents reminded me of the godparents in my own religion. Within Christianity, when a child is dedicated to God, their parents choose a set of godparents for them (or two sets). The godparents of the child are supposed to provide for, and nourish the child as if they were their own. Traditionally, these godparents hold the responsibility of teaching their godchild - or children - the religion they 're apart of. While hearing about all the lessons Vega received from her godparents, I had to step back and reevaluate how godparents are currently used in my religion. Vega 's godparents are perfect models of what good godparents are, however, modern day godparents in Christianity seemed to drift away from the traditional roles. Vega 's godparents, like any good godparent carried her through every step of her journey into Santería, she encouraged her and showed her the ways by which she should abide. While Santería and Christianity are different religions, it was interesting to see the concept of godparents being used in almost the same ways, with only slight differences.
