't stop her from acquiring as much information as possible. As Vega began to grow in the religion, she learned the ways and patakís of Santería from her godparents. Vega 's godparents served as a source of nourishment for Vega, teaching her and exposing her to the wonderful religion of Santería. The nourishing nature of Vega 's godparents reminded me of the godparents in my own religion. While hearing about all the lessons Vega received from her godparents, I had to step back and reevaluate how godparents are currently used in my religion. Vega 's godparents are perfect models of what good godparents are, however, modern day godparents in Christianity seemed to drift away from the traditional roles. Vega 's godparents, like any good godparent carried her through every step of her journey into Santería, she encouraged her and showed her the ways by which she should abide. While Santería and Christianity are different religions, it was interesting to see the concept of godparents being used in almost the same ways, with only slight differences. Marta Vega 's The Altar of My Soul allowed me to connect with Vega on many…
