One of the regional differences I note in the data is the lack of golf courses on the West Coast of the United States. In the East Coast and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States, golf is best served. Another region that is very well served is Florida. Generally speaking , the Deep South and West Coast regions of the U.S. lack the most golf courses. Some of the factors I believe account for this difference are environmental determinism and cultural traits. I think environmental determinism…
Picture this, The Amazon Rainforest. Bright green leaves from trees, animal moving all around, and beautiful trees, flowers and plant. Amazing, right? Well now imagine all of that being cut down, even destroyed. Many companies are cutting down trees in the Amazon to make factories, roads, farms, and to plant trees. By doing this, plants and animals are getting killed, which is causing a chain reaction. The animal and plant population goes down, then there is less food to hunt, then people are…
Astronomy was made 30,000 years ago by people who looked at the things in our sky. There work paved the road for our projects today. Celestial phenomena attracted the attention of our ancestors and how they dealt with what was seen was called archaeoastronomy. Archaeoastronomers try to figure out what the ancient people studied, how they studied them, and what they learned. By exploring the ancient astronomy, we hope to learn more about those civilizations. In 1992 a crater under the Yucatan…
Energy vs Wind Energy The United States alone burns more than a billion tons of coal every year, making up more than half of the electricity used in the US from coal power. However, burning fossil fuels also causes 78 percent of the United States global warming emissions, 32 percent being from coal. In order to combat these pollutants and hopefully cut down prices different cleaner, and renewable energy alternatives are being used instead. One of these newer and effective forms of renewable…
Studying Dead Zones For the last century and a half pollution has been increasing at an exponential rate in the World. This pollution negatively impacts all inhabitants of the Earth, but often times the destruction of the ocean is overlooked. One of the biggest issues that the ocean is facing is ocean dead zones. Ocean dead zones are increasing rapidly due to pollution and environmental damage caused by humans. This paper will be discussing what an ocean dead zone is, what are the sources of…
Ocean Pollution: A Manmade Crisis In modern society, people do not give a second thought to what is going on in the environment or the changes occurring around them. Many people live with the notion of “out of sight, out of mind” but how much longer can that kind of thinking go on before it is too late? Ocean pollution has been a problem since the Roman times. Which means it has been going on for roughly 2,000 years. 2,000 years of polluting the seas, endangering the marine life, and even…
universal covenant or communion between humanity and nature. 2. A cosmic dimension of salvation requires foremost a holistic understanding of humanity and environmental ecology. Orobator claims, “Salvation of the universe occupies a central place and the global discourse on sustaining ability, climate change, ecological integrity and the imperative to cultivate a progress of ecological virtues.” As an animist, he recognizes that animism is a “creative process of ecological integrity.” This…
Clean coal can also be very dangerous. Clean coal technologies are sought out to lessen the environmental impact but, it is harming it. More and more carbon dioxide is being added to the atmosphere. This increase in carbon dioxide directly effects global warming. This could have the potential to kill several people by the thousands, who can encounter possible heart attacks and asthma attacks. Several people believe in the idea that coal production increases job opportunities. This is one of…
The text, 2BO2B by Kurt Vonnegut talks about a man named Edward K Wehling Jr, who waited for the birth of three triplets. Because of population control, Mr.Wehling was only able to take one of the three triplets home, according to the law. He sit in the waiting room, followed by Leora Duncan and Dr. Hitz. Mr. Wheeling becomes angered by the law, then shoot the two and himself to make room for the triplets to all survive. In the text, having population control benefited life, but not others. The…
Yes, I believe that using controlled fires to protect wild areas are beneficial. Controlled fires help maintain the health of an existing natural area containing native plants and they help manage weeds and other growth, which helps to reduce the risk of wildfires. Fire is one of the best outdoor management tools for invasive plant control. For over 10 years ecologists have been using this technique, which has spread to many other trained people to use as a tool. Woodlands, prairies, and…
