CHAPTER NINE The Invasion of the Ugly Ogres We felt our way along like three blind mice through the morning mist until at last we emerged from the fog and found ourselves encircled by harsh wind, gritty dust, and weeds. It sounded as if trees were being scratched out by their roots and thrown on the ground. Suddenly there was a low howl, then as if out of nowhere hideous giant Ogres with sharp horns appeared and surrounded us. I steadied myself, held out my sword and lunched at the huge gray monsters. They stepped to the side and I landed in the dust. "We don't want to play with you dim-wit," one the Ogres growled, "we just want to eat you." The other monsters snicker. My knees started to giggle like jelly and my hands were shaking. Then my sword twitched, sparkled and shined brightly as it shot out a burst of magic at the beasts.…
