Martin Luther was an influential scholar in the 16th century who changed the face of the Catholic church by sparking the beginning of the Protestant Reformation. To the Christian Nobility of the German Nation is one of the first works written by Luther in 1520. The text gives the reader an insight into the life of Luther, while he exhorts and rebukes the authority and ideals of the Roman Catholic Church. Within the text, Luther challenges the three main ideals of the Church and insinuates an ecclesiastical movement. Furthermore, I agree with Luther’s approach to completely disband all the metaphorical walls that the Romanists have developed in the attempt to revolutionize Church and State. In To the Christian Nobility of the German, The Romans…

In the beginning of the two texts “A Poison Tree” by William Blake and “The Interlopers” by Saki, the main characters chose to ignore their anger rather than deal with it in a healthy manner. In “The Interlopers” the two main characters Ulrich and Georg have an enemy like relationship because of a long family feud due to Georg’s family poaching on Ulrich’s land. These two have never had an actual conversation about the feud and how to resolve it “the feud might, perhaps, have died down or been…

The theme in Saki’s, “The Interlopers” is better than Dahl’s, “The Lamb to Slaughter” because the theme is easier to understand. In the story “ The Interlopers” both characters start off the story with a very deep hatred for each other and this is very obvious. Saki says, “ The neighbor feud had grown into a personal one since Ulrich had come to be the head of the family; if there was a man whom he detested or wished ill to it was Georg Znaeym ( Saki 1)”. These two men have had a big family…

“The Interlopers” is a story about two men, Ulrich von Gradwitz and Georg Znaeym, whose feelings for each other change during the story. At the beginning of the story Ulrich and Georg hate each other, but during the story they learn that sometimes it’s good to let go of the past. This shows that the men were letting the past influence their opinions of each other, and the fact that they change so dramatically during the story is surprising. This story is a also a good example of irony. The theme…

Throughout the short story, “The Interlopers”, author Saki creates a valuable lesson that forgiving and forgetting is better than holding grudges and remembering. The author, Saki, created a situation for the two main characters, Georg and Ulrich, from his short story, “The Interlopers”. For example, this situation causes a violence between these two characters. In addition, Ulrich was a former landowner and Georg was trespassing on his land and using Ulrich’s land for himself. Also known as…

What makes the ending of “The Interlopers” surprising is the last word “wolves”, because the author makes this story with irony. The author does prepare me for the ending by having the story say “Are they your men?” asked Georg, “are they your men” he repeated impatiently, as Ulrich did not answer. “No” said Ulrich with a laugh, the idiotic chattering laugh of a man unstrung with hideous fear. “Who are they” asked Georg quickly, straining his eyes to see what the other would gladly not have…

What would the world be like if the only food eaten was dictated by the social class system? What if only the rich could have Starbucks because they could afford to pay for their tiredness? Well, the Elizabethan Era social class system of 1558-1603 did exactly that; it dictated the diet of the poor and the wealthy. Similar to today, meal plans of the Elizabethan Era followed a strict and structured format that included multiple meals per day (Alchin 5). All social classes ate the three usual…

Starting off with the bottom class individuals. I would prefer to be in the French revolution if I was part of the lower class. Although famine, taxes, and inflation were negative externalities of the Revolution, I feel the formation of the new form of government from Third Estate was a history changing revolution to be a part of. They created a document that reflected the rights of every individual, not just the nobility. They earned their freedom and as Locke said, “the government’s purpose…

Following the Napoleonic Wars of the early 19th century, government leaders met at the Congress of Vienna (1814-15) to redraw the boundaries of Europe. In Central Europe, a confederation of thirty-eight German states replaced the long-standing Holy Roman Empire, which had been dissolved through Napoleon’s conquests. In the prelude to the Revolutions of 1848, the political, economic, and social orders of this new German Confederation became subjects of great debate and varied opinions among…
